2008 Grand Prix oil loss

Have a 2008 Grand Prix 3.8 70 k miles . It loses about a quart of oil every 3000 miles no leaks. Thanks for any help.
 


Ask any GM dealership or GM themselves and they will say using 1 quart per 3,000 miles in 100% normal.


You can replace your PCV valve and see if it helps any, but other than that, there isnt much you can do.
 
1 quart in 3000 miles is nothing to be concerned about. I read somewhere GM says 1 quart in 1000 miles is acceptable. I have noticed on my 03GT it will burn more oil if I have lots of short trips and use less if the miles on the OCI are all long trips of 250 plus miles without stopping.
 


Only to add to the answers here, when I told my dealer I was running extended intervals (6,000miles) on synthetic oil the service guy said to make SURE I check the oil level because it would likely run low over that period of time. So 1 quart per 3,000 miles seems to be acceptable/normal (still makes me curious!).

My GF's dad has owned his GP since it had just under 20k miles on it and now has over 150k and told me that his does the same thing and I have nothing to worry about on my GP
 
My 3800 seems to burn about a half quart in 2.7k miles, all short trips. It would make sense that it burns more oil in city driving (per mile) because engines travel less miles per rpms at lower speeds.
 


Replace your PCV valve. It might be sucking oil. When you access it see if there is oil inside. For what these cost, it can't hurt to replace it and see if that is where your engine is losing oil.

I lost 1/4 of a quart on 3.1k miles when I did my last oil change. I think my front valve cover may have started seeping. So I'm going to change that out tonight.
 


im having the same issue except it is about 1 and 1/2 quarts at 1000 miles. I changed my oil at 116000 and not im at 116900 and im at the second to last bubble at the end of the dipstick. any thoughts? help please.
 
Replace the crankshaft seal, I've never had a car with moderate to high mileage not need the crankshaft seal replaced. Its too cheap not to do it.
