2000 SE stock top speed?

I'm just wondering what the top speed of the 3.1L engine is. the governor kicks in at about 107 mph. z-rated tires are the only enhancement to this car.

It depends on how much power is left. Typically our motors are running out of steam to overcome the air resistance around the 110-120 mark.

Think of it this way..that motor is working awfully hard at 110mph. How much can it handle at the higher rpm? I've seen a lot of 3800 guys say they blew the motor trying to hold 120 etc for any distance.

stick your hand out the window at 40mph then at 80mph now imagine your car, not your hand, having to overcome that force at say, 120mph

I dunno Aaron...never popped a motor. And I was only concentrating on the road during those quick rips up over 110mph.

Actually..I did run the SSEi (nearly stock at that time) for about an hour at 120mph across Montana. What a great state :th_thumb-up:

Yeah I'm not sure why the motor would mind chilling out at 4500 RPM for a long time it's got plenty of coolant flow and airflow other than just going through alot of fuel.

110-135mph for 30 minutes straight.

IIRC for an increase in speed, there is a squared increase in air resistance, and a cubic increase in power required to move through a fluid.

So a 10% speed increase requires roughly 33.1% more power.

If you needed 100HP to drive 100MPH, you need 173HP to drive 120MPH.
