Power steering?

Ok my 02 40th anniversary grand prix had some power steering noises, i took it to the dealer and they toped off the fluid (i couldn't find it). They also said i had a rack and pinion leak and i need to replace it. Auto Zone has duralast for $197 after core charge but idk what brand to go with. Any help would be awesome. Here goes my savings money :th_nervous:

FYI the fluid resivoir is under the alt. towards the firewall. You can't see it, but just have to feel for it. Then need a long funnel to fill it up.

If it's not leaking badly, try filling it/topping it off with a bottle of Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak. Made the one in my 00 GT last almost another 50K miles.

Be sure you are looking at the correct rack as well, as I'm not sure what years/models got the Magnasteer option, but your's may have it. That price sounds awfuly low for a rack w/ Magnasteer.

Check our Rock Auto for a replacement rack. Personally I wouldn't buy a rack from Autozone. Once you see how much of a PITA it is to replace, do you really want to risk doing it over again if you get a bad one? I am going w/ OEM Delco for my replacement. Ebay and Rock Auto can be your friend :th_thumbsup-wink:
