need glasspack installation advice

hello gentlemen and gentlewomen, i have come here seeking advice

i wish to put some glasspacks on my 3.8 because it will sound cool, but i have run into a dilemma. my 07 grand prix gt has the dual exit exhaust with the resonator replaced with pipe. initially i was going to chop off the mufflers and weld on two glasspack mufflers + tips, but a thought occurred to me about straight piping the mufflers and slapping the glasspack into where the resonator used to be (and still some tips of course). which would sound better? which would be cheaper to do? im broke as hell but i must feed the beast with new parts. thanks in advance.

No, it will not sound cool. Get the longest glasspack you can (I used a Thrush and had flanges welded to it) and put it where the stock resonator was then keep the rest of the stock catback including mufflers. The 3.8 sounds like junk with all but the most expensive setups and usually just ends up with terrible drone right around 2K rpms (which is your highway cruising range).

You could upgrade mufflers to Borlas or something decent but if you're "broke as hell" then I would just leave well enough alone. You could also YouTube 3.8L grand prix exhaust and see what has been done in the past to give you some ideas. I've driven around in GP's that would make you want to wear earplugs because of the drone/sound. You can't get it to sound like a V8 no matter how much you want to if that's your goal. Just my .02
