Thread: Ready to install SSC's? Which is front?

So... Here I am looking at these new SSC springs. One pair of springs is shorter and the wire dia is a little larger, the others are taller w/smaller wire. The short ones are also larger in total dia, which ones go in the front? Got some Bilsteins to put them on, with a new set of Monroe mounts and seats. It took a long time to save up for all of this and I don't want to screw it up. I sent an email to ZZP, but thought I'd get a second opinion from you guys.

Makes sense, just wanted to check with others.

All springs are in and looking good. NOTE! to anyone doing this. If your car is equiped from the factory with 17-18" rims, it doesn't take the common spring seat. There is a slightly larger one for the springs on my CompG, and I assume others too. I tried the standard ones I got from NAPA and the spring wasn't going to stay on them at all, easily a half inch too small. Went back to NAPA with the new parts and a disassembled factory unit and got the right stuff, common rear mounts worked perfectly.

look just sit them on the strut mounts! only the right one will fit snug and in the right position there is an up and a down for it! and i think it is actually the opposite of what tea time said if i remember properly! cuz there was something a bit diffrent about dropping my grand prix but a bit hard to remember i did it a year ago.

Did you get the comfort or HD valving?

I got the HD's. Turner Motor Sports/AllShocks.com worked out to be the best price. The ride isn't any lower, but it's much smoother. I don't know how much of that was old(117k) worn out struts, or mounts, or the twenty bushings(front and back) and the two ball joints I replaced at the same time. I eye-balled the allignment and will drive it around for a week before going to get it aligned. Hopefully it'll settle some by then too.

Just curious as I have some HD's with vogtland springs and i've noticed an increase in ride height yet the handling is improved, but only marginally.

I really like the way this shock/spring combo works. I've always been a proponent of the softer spring/stiffer shock valving. In the late 70's I campaigned a Corvette with a freind in hill climbs and gymkhanna, that was what worked best for us. I'm wondering if a stiffer anti-role bar set-up might be my next change, but right now am VERY happy with how it's all working.
