2008 Grand Prix HUD Date Issue

Hello everyone. I recently installed an aftermarket stereo in my Grand Prix. Its the 2008 base model, no boss or radio controls on the steering wheel. After taking out the factory cd player (single disc) my heads up display won't save the date anymore. Every time I start the vehicle the date is reset. It also won't keep the date displayed even after I reset it. The date will remain up for about 10 seconds then it just shows ---- --. Is there any way to get the date to save? I had the stereo installed professionally with the LC-GMRC01 Metra warness. I tried to do the install myself but there was no 12v red wire. The factory radio had two harnesses going into it. One for the speakers and one that was smaller and only had one pink/orange wire going into it. This wire was not used in the LC-GM harness as far as I know. I asked the guy who installed it if that was needed and he said no. Do I need to purchase a separate harness or something to get the date to save? The cd player installed is an older Alpine single din nothing fancy just something to plug my Ipod into. Thank you for reading and I appreciate any help or tips I can get :D

As strange as it sounds, the date data is stored inside the stock radio. I remember seeing a thread a while back where someone wired the stock radio in along with the aftermarket one and had it stored in the trunk to allow the date to remain saved. I personally just stopped using the date display, my phone can tell me the date when needed.

There is no way to get the date with an aftermarket radio, non at all. Sucks but it is what it is.
