Hey guys my 98boost gtp is acting up. Im getting p0171 lean bank 1. My power is way down and my mpg is about 14.5. I have replaced plugs, wires, coils, maf, fuel filter, vac lines, head gaskets and all gaskets leading to heads. Fuel pressure test reveals 48 but the needle fluctuates very rapidly between 46-50. O2 sensors seem to be working. However my map is 9.7 steady at idle according to the scanner. I have checked fuel lines and cannot find any leaks. Also replaced injector orings. Pulled vac hose off pressure regulator and it was completly dry. Kinda at a loss. Thinking pump or clogged injectors. Although a map of 9.7in/hg seems low at idle. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks
 


9.7 is low.

Have you read the fuel trims?

What do they say at idle after it's gone into closed loop?

Still sounds like a vac leak to me.
 
Stft is about 614 at idle ltft is around 14 at idle. Egr tube i have not checked. I checked the egr valve which was good. What is the best way to check the tube? Remove it? If 9.7 map is low then there has to be a vac leak somewhere? Should i smoke test?
 


Hook a piece of vacuum hose to the map. Pull your scanner screen up and watch map as you suck and blow on the tube. It should move. If not..your map or the wiring to it is bad.
 


Thank you all for your responses! I have replaced all vac lines including the T on the lim under the sc snout. Map is a steady 9.7 at idle. I am going to check the map and egr tube. I also have smoke that comes from the area nelow the egr after the car heats up. I always attributed the smoke to an oil leak i have but now that i think about it the smoke smells and looks more like exhaust smoke than burning oil. This leads me to think the egr may in fact be cracked. I am going to investigate some more romorrow but everyones suggestions have neen great! Keep them coming and i will continue updating while trying to solve this problem because it really is crippling my performance and my wallet given the price of 93you octane!
 
Just an update i scanned the car and here are some results:
Map: at idle between 8.7 and 9.8hg at 2000rpm right about 8.0hg
Maf: .52 lb/m. At 2000you rpm 1.4lb/m
coolant temp 207
Iat 118
Ign advance 22.0 at idle 30.5 at 2000rpm
Stft% -1.2 to. 8 at idle -.8 to 2.3 at 2000rpm
Ltft% 10.9 at idle 7.0 to 8.3 at 2000rpm very odd never seen them this low
Absolute tps% 3.9 at 2000rpm
02s11 .1-.8v at idle. 1-.8 at 2000rpm
Stft11% -3.8 toto 3.4 at idle-4.6 to 7.3
O2s12 .14 to. 618 at idle slow smoothe rising and falling. .160 at 2000rpm
All tests were done in park. Have never seen the ltft so low.
Had several dtc's: p0171 bank1 too lean intermittent. P0741 tcc solenoid. P1646 boost control solenoid. P1811 max adaptive long shift.
 
Sounds like what mine was doing. Im in the middle of finding a new engine. But I bought mine as a "fixer upper" the head was also leaking on both sides. But I wish you the best of luck!
 
Do you have the tranny codes as well? I believe the lean condition is related to the egr... i just did the heads as well. The tranny codes are from a bad tcc solenoid and a need for a shift kit haha
 


Just an update... i did what bill suggested and tested the map and it seems to be working. I scanned again and the ltft was 16.4. At idle but goes down when throttled. The code is also intermittent and only in bank 1. Im really stumped guys the egr seems fine but map is now 10that in/hg. Im really stuck performance and mpg are terrible
 
I'm having the same issues you are right, been working on my car all weekend and just want the damn thing to run right, ltft are at 16.4 at idle. I replaced the lower intake manifold gasket today and some vac fittings that were dry rotted. I got it to idle smooth but I took it out for a test drive and it still wont pull over 4000rpm. Any pointers are greatly appreciated!
