Okay heres the scoop. At 100k I want to flush my transmission fluid and replace it with fresh Amsoil Syn. (Will be done professionally.)

    My question is.

I have been told many times by many people that flushing a transmission with that amount of miles on it, is bad for the trans.
I don't think that's true. I can't see how it is, but with the amount of people that have said that to me, I'm beginning to wonder if its true.

So is it a good idea to flush the fluid and replace with Amsoil (because I know how much our Trans.'s love that stuff.) Or should I just leave the fluid alone????

ps. the car's a '99 GTP with 99.6k on it.

I heard that too, my mechanic just recommended a pan drop and filter change. You should probably just do those.

I heard that too. But I really want to make the switch because i'm always super hard on my transmissions, and I figure better fluid will help a lil bit.

You can mix different ones right? IK its not the same as ALL amsoil but... idk I'm just gonna use whatever is on sale for the week when I'm gonna do a pan drop, low on money, not a huge difference.

what ive been told is if the trans has had regular service in the past it will be ok to do a full flush, (at least a pan drop every 50,000 miles) if its at 100,000 miles and never had anything done (not even a pan drop) dont flush. just do a pan drop and filter if thats the case. like said above, your going to need the old fluid to hold it together.

i saw one car never leave the shop (after a full flush) and they warned the guy but he wanted it done.

i had a friend who worked at lube express, he was the manager, when i had my 97 gmc, i got $20 t-tech's done on my trans every 6 months, (tip for the guy doing it) that trans lasted till i sold it at 175,000 and 5 years old,(its now/still a landscaping truck to this day same trans lol) driven like i stole it, snow plowed, towed a 4,000 lb boat 2 times a weekend for 4 years, and i drove 3000 miles a month for work with it, well worth the money if its done from the start of its life.

if the fluid is brown and stinks like its burnt, just do a pan drop, its safer.

i hate not knowing myself, im at 213,000 and have no idea either. (im brown and burnt up as well) my trans is shifting pretty good right now tho, so im going to milk it till i can just get a new one. been toying with a pan drop and shift kit, but im a scared lol

and that's why buying a car new is great, you know it's past.

Ohh that is good to know, so mine really does need one... I was checking the fluid yesterday and didn't really know what to look for, I too the dipstick out and was like "what is that smell??" It was the fluid but thought it was like that anyway... really dark brown and burnt smelling.

when the fluid is good its real red or pinkish, it has a smell but not like when its burnt, to make sure compare to a friends or family's cars trans fluid.

Mine is the same way. My tranny has 225k on it. I am getting a little slipping in OD. I do have a shift kit installed. But I was warned NOT to do a flush. I was told it would break loose some deposits that were built up and could cause problems if they get lodged in the tranny. Right now I am just going to do a filter and fluid change and then this winter I will be getting a new tranny from ZZP.

    No zzp.
    Triple edge Trans.
and how often do you change your plugs, or wires, or coil packs etc. that causes OD slip too

I haven't done them yet... I was planning on it but didn't know it would cause a slip in OD. I have pretty much decided on ZZP for the tranny. Just because I am in Grand Rapids so it is pretty convenient.
