I need a stock catalytic converter for a 2005 Grand Prix GT. Just helped my brother buy this car for his first car and a converter wasn't in the repair budget. Thanks.

Really?
Perhaps thinking more than 2 seconds would maybe get some more thought bubbles flowing through your noodle. Like the fact that his gas mileage will go down, his SES will stay on, he'd need a tune and don't gimme no bull**** comment back about that one(because it's not an option for 95% of people). Posts like this make me angry.
We do have to have emissions, unfortunately. And luckily it isn't clogged, just the check engine light is on so he can at least drive it for now.
P0420?
Indeed.
I'm thinking if I can't find a used one quickly, maybe the ZZP down pipe would be the way to go. Looks like a good bit cheaper than a GM or aftermarket direct replacement and would get him a little more sound.

Cheapest route would probably be a aftermarket downpipe from ZZP w/ a cat and then adding a spark plug fouler. You still may end up a/ the p0420 so a tuning it out may be needed so keep that in mind
Yeah, I'm a GM tech so I know the weld-ins are junk and a lot of the aftermarket direct replacements are, too. The GM cat is $540 my price and while I'm normally a proponent of GM parts, I just can't justify that on a car we paid $2300 for. I was going to go with the Magnaflow direct replacement since I know its quality but I think the ZZP is going to be the choice if no one offers me a good used stock one by tonight. The price is right and I can send them the bad stock one for a $50 credit.
Any thoughts in taking the cat off and cleaning it with a solvent?
Magnaflow does make a quality cat that isnt a high flow, but the cost is likely around $200 bucks. I forget the part numbers but it is out there.
Some people have foulers work some don't.
