Im looking for a stock 4T65E-HD differential. Prefer if its lower miles. My car only have 55k on it so who would want to put one in that has 100k on it?

I just need the differential itself, not the output shaft or anything.

    Thanks

You'll need the cover too. It is different. Also, as you might be aware, you'll need the hd cv axle, and although slight, the output shaft is slightly longer.

Im actually already an HD transmission... I found half of a spring pin in my pan last week. Which after doing some digging, is the pin that holds in the roll pin in that is in the center of the differential. I figured id just find a new diff because i think its starting to carve the inside of my diff cover.

Oh no! That stinks. I would gladly grab one for you at the junkyard, but I doubt I'd find one with less than 100,000 on it. Sorry to hear that happened! Good luck!

Spring pin that broke or the big roll pin that holds it all together? I'm unsure how bad it'll be when I get in there. So i was preparing for the worst. Though it would be half the work to just replace the spring pin. I did not have many shavings at all in the filter so I just may go in and replace it with a harden spring pin.

I know its 1/8th thick but does anyone know how long it is? I know this was a ISO post but looks like its turned into other things lol.

Thank you again, and add a +1 for using the site on the computer.

So Saturday I took on replacing my differential. BillBoost was kind enough to sell me his from one of his transmissions.

Im having an issue after installation. Now hen im driving about 20 mph and have my foot in the throttle at all, i hear a loud whining noise. As soon as I let my foot out of the throttle, it pretty much goes away. It didnt do this when i test drove it Saturday. Now yesterday i noticed it was dripping tranny fluid. It ended up being the diff cover needed to be tightened more. It still dripping a little though. Its almost like it wasnt lined up correctly.

The CV axle is fully inserted and the nut is tight. The diff cover is seated all the way in. But i guess I get to pull it all back apart again on the 4th

Whining is usually from low fluid or a clogged filter. Did you drop the pan and change the filter when you did the work? I would suggest it if you haven't. As for doing the diff cover, it can go in a little off or the gasket may not have lined up perfectly. Make sure you look at it before you bolt it up and it needs to be sitting perfectly on there. It does not get pulled in, it sits flush w/o bolts.

I did a pan drop about a 1000 miles again ago. Thats how i found the broken pin. The center pin in the diff was still being held in with the rest of the roll pin so that was good news.

In a way to me it seemed almost like a bad cv axle type of whine. I dont feel confident that the cover sat flush so thats probably where my problem lies. Looking at my old diff cover, i realized theres a rubber gasket around it. And the more i think about it as im laying in bed, the more i think there wasnt one on the diff cover you gave me, so one never got installed lmao

You live and you learn. We will see tomorrow. Might drop the pan if it comes down to it.

can't remember if the gasket was on it or not. Hope that's your issue.

Jack passenger side way up and you likely won't lose any fluid.

So the planet gears on the 'new' diff are now all chipped. And the shavings are on my speed sensor. Guess im going to swap the pin to mine and go from there.

I mean it spun okay, looked okay. Was pushed over the lock ring on the output shaft. What couldve happened??

Chipped, never heard of that before. That one came out of a trans that had spent clutches only. The diff looked good with no obvious issues.

Which selective washers did you use, your originals or the ones that came with the replacement? I don't imagine they caused an issue, merely wondering. Can you share some pics.

Yes the diff was good when i installed it.

Looking at the front of the diff, where the axle inserts, Is the selective washer the magnet looking thing behind the circle thing that has two pieces that spins? lol sorry Im not a transmission guy. The 'two pieces that spins' part, I switched that out with mine. I left that thick piece behind it alone.
