ya the projector and shroud are two separate pieces (well if you buy from TRS anyway) and the shroud just gets screwed to the projector

When I painted mine I used oven cleaner to strip all the chrome off. Then scuffed with the green scotch brite.

200 degrees for 20 minutes worked for my camaro's headlights when I did a retrofit, so I'm going to try that again.

Well never mind, I'm doing this now and the headlight part is giving me a hard time. The corners came apart easy.

So I didn't read every single thread you posted, but it looks like you have to cut the shrouds for the Mini H1 projectors? Mine won't fit inside the housing.

Yeah you have to hack like half of the shroud away. Top and bottom, this is just a general idea of how much you will need to take off. I have to trim mine more even after those cuts.

Yup...they need quite a bit of hacking up.

The back has to be cut so you can tighten down the lock ring...here's what I cut.

Oh yeah I figured the back would need to be cut when I pulled these from my car.

ya shroud has to be cut. take your time and you should be okay. in one of the links it shows you the way to cut the shouds. they will look just like what Fivefingerdeathpunch posted.

Thanks guys I'm going to start doing all the cutting now. Snapping pictures as I go, I'll probably make a thread about it.

Please do. I am waiting for my parts to arrive (5 days later and TRS still hasn't shipped my order).

The 97-03 community needs more detailed info on the retrofit; Clean's pics are gone, and one other guy that took good pics are all blurry and hardly legible. I have a good idea of what needs to be done, but I like pictures!

I was blown away with all the threads with a few final pics, and saying "I'll post more pics later". Some of these threads are 2-3 years old, and said pictures have not been posted.

My stuff got here 4 days after I ordered, same with last time I retrofitted. TRS has been one of the best companies to deal with, hands down.

I cross threaded one of the projectors where it gets 'held down' so to speak...TRS is shipping that part of the projector (the bowl part) so it's going to take a little longer for me to get this project done.

I wish the quality of the nut and bowl were better, they can cross thread even doing it by hand. And after a few times of going on and off, metal/plastic or whatever the material is starts to leave shavings behind.

dumb question i already have ddm h1 bulbs, harness, and ballasts. im guessing i can reuse those but they are only low beams not bixenons. so how do the bixenons work exactly are there bulbs for that im guessing. and im pretty sure i could reuse the same ballasts and harness over

The harness won't work. You need a harness from TRS. The high beams on a bixenon projector are achieved by moving the cutoff shield. Inside the projector you have a cutoff shield with a plugner attached to it. The TRS harness has one side that powers the bulbs. When you flip the high beams on with the switch on the column, you supply power to those plungers which pull the cutoff shield down, raising the beam(high beam). The TRS harness is needed because in a regular 9007 application like ours, when you turn the high beams on, the low beams turn off. So if you were to try to wire them yourself, when you turn the high beams on, the cutoff would flip and the bulbs would turn off. TRS's harness has a relay that takes care of that issue and keeps power going to the bulbs and the plungers both to have a high beam

So...yes your DDM bulb and ballasts will work perfectly fine, although they might not be as bright/effecient as TRS's, but that's a different matter.
No, your DDM harness will not work for a bixenon function, only a low beam.

Also as a note for that TRS bixenon harness. You may have to switch the pins around. On mine they were backwards. I don't remember exactly what mine did but they acted all funky. Swapping the outer(IIRC) two pins around fixed my problem, as it has for lots of other people.

IIRC they do this because the harness is compatible for both 9004 and 9007 sockets but they high and low beam circuits are opposite.
