Hello all I just bought these headlights: Slim Xenon 6000K HID 97 03 Pontiac Grand Prix Headlights Replacement Lamp Set | eBay

I bought them for the visual appeal ..having the black housing and the brighter lights from the hids
But what i didnt know when i bought them is that hids are technically illegal. Do cops really crack down on people with hids? And do you get ticketed or do you get a warning that says you need to take them off? I ask this because if i get another ticket, i think my license gets suspended.

Feedback would be great, thanks all.

You won't get points for headlights, just a fixit ticket. Never heard of anyone getting in trouble; most cops don't know a darn thing about cars. The rest don't care.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

Depends on the cop, and if you are doing anything else illegal. (Speeding, fast lane changes, other **** to get you noticed)

I've only had a cop talk to me once about my HID's, and he asked where I got them. A good friend of mine got a $116 ticket for his Green HIDs in his 07' GT, stock housing.

Likely they are blue enough that the cops recognize them as aftermarket. Hence why I always went with 4300K, even if a cop looked at the car funny, likely he coudln't tell for sure they might not be stock.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Shouldn't be a issue as long as they're aimed probably and not shining in the back windows or front windshield of other drivers but if you already have a bad rap **** on the road you may not want to take the chance.

You definatley won't get in trouble I've had. Hid's since 06. Like everybody above said if you have them to where the color would distract other drivers or blind them well beyond the horizon line then you would get a ticket. Stick with 4300-6000k and you will be alright 8000k is pure blue and a waste of hid imo

Cops drive by me all the time and they know I have HIDs because I have 10000k. I don't think they really care that much

I got pulled over once, when I still had my GP, and I had 6000k. He just said they were too bright, and told me I needed different headlights to use them.

I've been running HID's for a good 8 years now, and never had any issues with the law. I know of many that get stopped on a regular basis, so it just depends.

With as many factory cars coming with HID lights most cops don't care anymore.

I've had 6000Ks in since I got my car, haven't had a problem with a cop anywhere around the state of Iowa. It's all been said - most cops don't know a thing about them, and the majority of those who do just don't care enough to get out in the cold to talk to me about them. I'd say you have to be pretty *darn* unlucky to get into trouble with HIDs unless you're really stupid with them. (Extreme blue, pink, purple, green, etc.) If you steer clear of that stuff, most cops won't even know the difference from stock. Just make sure they're aligned properly and I can just about guarantee that you'll be okay. I mean, unless you're really paranoid - in that case, don't risk it.
