Does anybody have any tricks for fixing or slowing that process?
I thought it was just a problem in my 04 GTP but my 08 GXP has a similar crack near the HUD.

Sun + cheap plastic = extremely brittle. Buy a new one or get some bondo and repair it and strength if.
Haha. Just did this. Had to buy a new gm trim peice because all the used ones were broke.
I was trying to think of ways to make it stronger like coating the underside with some epoxy.. At first I thought maybe dynamat but obviously lots of heat on the dash from sun and defrost.

Some of us are not balling enough to have the luxury of parking in the garage
Only other fix I can see besides putting a cover on windshield and cracking the windows a bit is either bondo or fiberglass to strengthen it.
Or just buy a spare if you plan on keeping the car for awhile before GM decides to stop making them.

Just a heads up the first and second design have the exact same part number for the hud trim peice

whats it cost for a new one?
Yeah mine was $52+tax, worth it to not stare at those cracks lol
List is like $82 you can pick one up on a GM parts site between 60-80 shipped

I heard somewhere that new ones are different plastic, but then again I hear a lot of things. If you're really... really... quiet... you can hear them, too.
I'm in michigan so no major sun here and I literally pulled the old one out in over a dozen peices it was so brittle it desinigrated.
Here's then kicker my car has always been garaged even with the first owner so must just be crappy plastic

I wonder how much of that is from body flex because ever since I put on my strut tower brace the car seems much more solid, hopefully the new one doesn't crack anytime soon... I did however go from U design rear trailing arms to the box design at the same time so not sure how much of that contributed to the feel.
that driverside U arm bent like a tin can. Should have taken pics before scrapping it. I actually think it caused my rear tire to toe Inwards.

My car has been garaged a few years, but the damage is already done, it was broke last time I looked. Looks like a PITA to remove and try to fix.
