Stopped by the GM Nationals on Saturday, a total of 3 97-2003 GP's there. Anyway, 2 of the guys had F1 hoods on from MPD (looked nice BTW). One made the comment that one reason he went with MPD was the fact that you can still use your factory hood struts.

My question is, with PFYC's hood, can you still use the struts without damaging the hood, or do you not use them and prop up some other way.

    TIA,
    Keith

I have an ASCD Ram Air HO hood and it uses hood struts just like a stock hood. As far as I know, all the PFYC hoods use the struts...

I got it used here locally from a guy who needed money and was getting his car repoed. Very cheap, had to repaint it though because it was red.

At the time the hood was about $600 + shipping new, its been discontinued since. The closest thing now is the MPD F1 hood......

I think the issue they want you to be aware of is that when opening/closing a fiberglass hood it can cause stress marks or damage the hood. The factory hood struts are supposed to hold up a much heavier steel hood and then you throw a fiberglass hood on and it can cause to much stress to those points. I really havn't seen any other aftermarket hoods that DO NOT use factory hood struts.

Of the different types of hoods were built, some have the factory steel hood frame for strength, some pure fiberglass. I got mine used and I am pretty sure its a early pfyc hood but people have said its this and that also... I know I can carry it by myself with little effort so I think its pure fiberglass and so far I don't see any noticable stress marks using stock hood struts.
