I'm looking for weight reduction so of course I would want to switch out my doors, trunk, hood, etc to carbon fiber. If anybody knows of retailers who would have these parts, please let me know. Also if anybody knows of other ways to reduce the weight of a 2008 Grand Prix, let me know.

Put driver on a diet. That's the one best thing I could suggest. I don't believe beyond a fiberglass hood that there's any other lighter pieces readily available.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Remove all seats, door panels and spare tire and jack.

Thats about all you can do to reduce the weight.

    Its just a grand prix.

There are carbon fiber hoods and wings, as well as duraflex or fiberglass fenders.
Also, I had a similar thread a while back if you want to check it out: http://www.grandprixforums.net/remov...unk-59837.html

Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

Just a word to the wise, Don't strip stuff out of the car. As a DD, you'll never notice any difference from dropping the maybe 200lbs.

Now if you're wanting to do this for a drag day or something, go for it.

For doors, you're pretty much stuck. All you can do is cut out the support and take the glass out. Insurance wont like you though. Same for the bumper supports. Hoods, you can save some weight by going with a CF alternative. Spoilers are already light as hell. Maybe 2lbs or so (SLP Gen 2)

I can only assume that since he wants to strip weight and is willing to spend money on fiberglass parts, he's intending to make a track monster that will never see a street. Because any other reason is incredibly retarded.

The duralast fenders are 4Lbs ea and stock are 6.75Lbs. But so far I like them got about 1,000 miles no problems.

Compromising your safety further in an already sorta unsafe car is a baaaaaad idea.

    Or not.

^^^. If you do want to compromise safety. Drill holes to shave weight. Yes, very unsafe.

Thank you all for your advice. This is going to be a project car so I'm completely swapping out everything to do with engine, tranny, suspension, etc. I want this car to be one of a kind, but also a family car. It will be a daily driver, just looking for ways to make this vehicle lighter because it is a pretty heavy car. I wish you could just contact a manufacturer and ask them to make a carbon fiber kit for your car. I'm kinda new to this car scene so I'm not the smartest tool in the shed. That's why I'm branching out on here to learn from you guys. My next question, what kind of engine should I put in it if I want 400+ horsepower, but also 25+ mpg? Or what add on to the engine would I need to make better gas mileage. Supercharged or turbo? I'm looking for performance brakes to stop this heavy ride. Should I be looking at slotted or drilled? I appreciate the help

Also I'm trying to convert to a north/south engine rather than east/west.

each of these questions has a thread in the appropriate forums. I'm not sure what you would want to CF aside for the hood but

weight reduction-there was a thread of a guy listing everything he removed to achieve -250lbs

    brakes-the big bad brake thread

engine placement-I have no clue about seems like you would almost be better off buying a f-body and trying to convert it to a w-body :P

read safely modding your 3800 to get a round about understanding of the steps involved
I'm sorry officer I didnt know I couldn't do that

I'm pretty new to this Forum. I'm quickly learning about where to look for the questions I may have. I found a thread about modifying the 3800. I still want to figure out how to put a better engine in there though. It seems like it's got the room for a north/south V6 or even a small block V8. Thanks though for the helpl

Are you talking about doing a RWD conversion? For the cost and work just buy an F-body. They are super cheap these days.
