    Opinion #1...

They are ALWAYS a good idea.

Pro - look great, really set off the car. couldn't imagine my car without them again.

Cons - $$$ They can get really pricey if you can't find them in a JY. Ebay goes around $300. cheap on the forums in $160-250 or more... possibly will have to be painted depending on the seller.

Either way, if you like them as I do... buy them once you find a good deal.

Bio said it best... People will either be on or off the fence for these.

I love mine. I think I paid $220 shipped for them at a moderate "peak" in their price. Bought them off eBay. When I had my coupe I bought a second set off a member here (I think) and I don't know if it was the heat from shipping them or them being removed, but one was horribly warped that I couldn't use it :/

^^^The roof rails fix my GXP just fine. There's only a 3-4mm difference in length from the 97-03 GP roof line to the 04-08. To me that's negligible.

Roof rails add nothing to the look of the car. In my opinion they look terrible.

I like mine painted black on the silver, gives some contrast. But with the black tint and weather stripping and all it just rolls with the rest of the top. But if you don't have tinted windows I could see it looking weird.

But this is my opinion, to each is own as stated. If you like them, get em... if not look for a different mod. Its just aesthetics anyways, like a hood or bigger spoiler or wheels. No purpose one way or the other, just the look of the car.

same as wheels, hood, spoiler and every other non-performance option on the body. Just changes the look, and everyone has an opinion.

I like smooth clean lines. Roof rails take the smoothness away.

I've said it previously, I see it on other forums when something is "rare" people love it no matter how bad it looks. If roof rails weren't rare people would raving about having a railless car.

What smoothness? Even without the rails the moldings that go in place of the rails on a "railless" car don't make it smooth. Just semi-flush. You would have to actually remove the moldings, fill in with fiberglass or body filler or something and then smooth that over and then raise it up to the body side by the door so you had a "smooth clean line" across the top and then have it the top re-painted to match. To me it always looked like the moldings were just there to fill in the area because it was missing something. Once I found out about the rails it seemed like that was the intention but never done in mass, just on the "rare cars".

They don't do anything for our cars in the matter of performance, but NASCAR didn't use them for looks.

ROOF RAILS: Airflow over a smooth surface can create lift. These strips are designed to break up streamlined airflow across that lift.
Granted that is pretty much useless at the speeds we drive ours... I think they add aggression to cars, I love mine and don't regret a cent on 'em :P

But like mentioned, different strokes for different folks

Removed the GM badges. Slapped on the LS4 badge. Lowered on Canuck GXP springs. And installed roof rails for all you haters. Pix tomorrow.
