Did you guys use replacement headlights? if so do you know the manufacturer?
I tried to remove the lens today and I had TYC replacement headlights. I started out at 210* for 10 min and ended up at 275* for 10 min. They would just not come apart! with enough muscling I finally go the lens off but i ended up chipping small
chunks out edge of the chrome part on the inside of the housing as well as the plastic lip that the lens slides into. Needless to say the housing looks like hell. Im looking to order new housings but i wanna find some that will actually come apart.
I bought mine off amazon and rockauto so they are that TYC brand.
most people dont keep the ugly chrome inside, just sand it down and fix it, then paint it flat black to hide anything and paint the shrouds on the projectors to any color you want to make them stand out.
They should still seal fine if you work with it a little bit and apply a good amount of silicone.
To do my retro, I bought the cheap e-bay black stockers. I have the TYC chrome ones on the car right now while I am working on the all black ones. They ran me about 108 on e-bay. TYC I got off of Rock Auto. I am putting the chrome mini gatling in the all black housing along with switchback 3157 and switchback 194 for the cleared black corners. I'll post pics when I am done.Did you guys use replacement headlights? if so do you know the manufacturer?
Also, just FYI, I would run a lower temp for a longer duration on the baking off the headlights over a higher temp at the same duration. I think you'll be less likely to crack or chip your housings or lens then. Just make sure to check every five minutes or so.I tried to remove the lens today and I had TYC replacement headlights. Alright so i plan on painting the housing black. I am undecided if i want the shrouds to be chrome or if i want to try and make them a black chrome using the duplicolor shadow product from advanced auto. what do you guys think?
cell phone pictures, best you're gonna get for now. isn't a very nice day out for taking low resolution pictures..
yes, i know. my headlights need cleaning and buffing.
I was gonna post all the links I found while researching how to retro, however matt palm started a thread and I posted them there first so I'll just link to his thread...
