Is there any trick to removing this thing? I grabbed one out of a junkyard that's still attached to the tray. Been playing around with it for a bit, but it really doesn't want to come out of there. I was hoping to replace the defective one in my car without removing the tray, because I'm not really sure how the tray comes out.

I've seen two types of light attachments. One is there are two pieces and they screw together. the other is small tabs that hold it in place.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Yeah, it looks like there are small tabs, but it doesn't look like the lighter is detachable...at least without breaking something. The tabs don't push in. I've found nothing on the internet to help me with this. Apparently it's not a common thing to swap out in a Grand Prix.

my regal had the twist on ring on the outside of the console holding the cig lighter up from the bottom. the whole socket would turn, so i had to hold the socket and turn the top of it, had a plastic spacer on the bottom (on the socket but under the console) too i think.

have you tried to fix yours? get some 100 grit sand paper and clean out the inside of your old one, and some times the ground wire likes to fall off too. im sure you checked the fuse already.
