Yeah you did something COMPLETELY wrong, because no one with a proper retrofit "hates" it. If you used the same ballasts and same brand bulbs, that alone should increase output because all the scattered light in stock housings is now focused on the road. If you used non-clear lens projectors from another car, THEN maybe your output would suck, but if you used the Morimoto Minis and the bulbs that came with... well you're doing something wrong, or you're insane.

Btw, it has to be DARK for headlights to work. >_>

bump.. diggin' that setup.. I did my retrofit on my regal a few months ago. Light output is greater than stock setup but not as good because the lenses are a little hazy and I might have over tinted them so I'm waiting for my reimbursement from work and I'll redo them. BTW I used non-clear lenses from a mini cooper. I might just have to upgrade to the marimoto minis..

How did you get the fog housings open? I've heard heat doesn't do anything. If so, then what is the process???

    How much heat?

I had them in the oven at 275 or so for at least 10 minutes and I can't get the lens to budge. I feel like if I pry any harder I am going to start breaking the lens.

Those were aftermarket, OEM uses a much tougher glue. 225* is the most I would do and give it a little longer

It takes a lot of patience and finesse to get them open.

The housings I bought are aftermarket, just got them in the mail today. I don't THINK they are OEM but who knows?

So say 225*F for like 30 minutes? And just use a screwdriver around the edge and work it until it starts coming? Do you start at a clip?

Remember you can always go back and heat them up more if needed so don't overdo it.

I'm gonna keep the stupid questions going - what am I keeping an eye out for? Is there some telltale sign that they are "done" and ready to be pried apart?

Got them open. What a b!tch. scratched them up quite a bit too. I think these may have had OEM style glue as they didn't come apart with clear glue like the link above shows. I could probably get them apart without much scratching if I had to do it over again.

I think what I am gonna do is heat them up and scrape all that OEM crap glue out of the housing and off the lens. Then I will use butyl when I seal them back up for a leak-free and easy to remove seal if I ever need to open them again.
