I've looked all over the internet trying to find someone with a similar issue or fix for my particular problem but have come up surprisingly empty. My bronx "beater" was born and raised in Florida and apparently the sun seems to finally taken its toll on the dash. Here are some pics..

This happened when I sneezed between snapshots :

While it looks like the instrument panel surround isn't snapped in, causing the gap, it actually is. It appears as though the "glue" holding the cushioned top in place has been cooked away and is now pulling back from its normal position. Not to mention the ends are just sort of "caking" off like overused insulation. I mean... like what the hell? How do I fix this short of ripping off the whole dash top and then... I don't know. I'm at a loss as to how to repair it. Or is this one of those times I just have to throw money at it to fix it?

More pics available if u want, just let me know what u want or need to see. Advice is more than welcome.

I was afraid it wasn't an easy fix but where do I get a new dashpad from? I looked online for one but I don't see a great deal of retailers offering it. Doesn't seem too difficult for me to do solo. Damn. That felt like one of those 'famous last words' moments

I check Ed's ebay store religiously but since it isn't an everyday item, I understand why he might not list it. I guess i'll have to give the warehouse a call. I tried junkyards but it's hard finding a decent yard in NY. Most are loaded with trash or they don't want you to walk through the yards. I had to check one place's inventory from a crappy book and order the part I want. Then they send a runner to get it. The lot in that instance was only about 1 city block in diameter and they tried to sell me seats that were in worse condition then the ones I have now. And thats saying sumthin.

If I did happen to find a decent junker or junkyard does anyone have any idea how to remove it without ripping it to shreds? Did anyone have to do this kind of thing to their GP?

Have same exact thing, not as severe but pretty similar. I too live in Florida, but bought the car this way. Too lazy to fix now but make sure you get a sun reflector thing, really helps on the ware and tear that the damn FL sun causes.

I actually live in New York but the car spent the first 9 years of its life in Florida and i'm paying the price for it .
But I did learn the importance of the reflector during my first summer with it. New York summers are just as extreme as our winters and black leather does not agree at all with bare skin

Florida car, same thing, doesnt bother me tho, since its a cosmetic problem, not a mechanical one.

I actually fixed it before, in our GT. Some gorilla glue and pressure was all it needed.
