Does anyone have a detailed step by step easy method of painting brake calipers for a noob. New to doing anything to cars but really want to paint the calipers but not sure what paint is the right type, high temp, ect. what parts of the brake i should make sure not to get paint on and mask properly.

I want to do it right the first time, any help would be great or if someone could direct me to what I am looking for as far as kits or other good products for the job would be amazing thanks.

Prep. That is the number one thing to ensure a good(and lasting!) paint job on your calipers.. Pull them off, and then clean them very well.. Start spraying them with brake cleaner, maybe get the major stuff off with a wire brush. Depending how bad, and how good you want it they are sand them down smooth, or use a dremel.
As far as what kind of paint, they sell caliper paint that works very well, can find it at almost any auto parts store. If you want an a-typical color, you can substitute with engine paint, it'll withstand the temperature as well. I prefer to brush on, but they also sell it in a spray can.
If you spray, hang them up on something using a coat hanger or something.

I dont really want to take the actual calipers off if i dont have to, so is it possible to just leave on and tape off the entire rotor with masking tape and newspaper and spray paint them with the high temp paint and if i was to do it that way, what parts if any should i avoid getting paint on, like i said i am a complete noob and would like to do it right the first time without doing more harm than good. thanks for the help man.

i just used a high temp engine bay paint. i've painted drums without actually removing it... just take the time to prep right... calipers are easy to take off tho.

If you don't want to take the calipers off, id recommend brushing, and not spraying. If you do it that way it's simple.. Just paint what you see, no worry about what you need to tape off. If you spray you're going to get overspray somewhere.
If you do decide to spray, just cover up anything you dont want pain on. Honestly, there's not much that you'll harm with paint.. Brake line, back of the pad, fenderwells, etc.. Won't hurt, just looks bad IMO. Dont really want paint on the rotor as it can gum the pad up the next time you brake, but it'll come off.
Still make sure to do decent prep, brake clean everything really well and then take at least a wire brush in there and get the caliper as clean as you can.. Paint wont stick, especially not long to a dirty caliper.

yea i was going to brush the caliper with a wire brush and use brake cleaner. I just figure spray would be easier but based on the paint i find i might paint on aswell. Thanks alot though man, helps me out a lot, and i have to get stands to hold the car up any decent ones for a good price so i don't kill myself holding it up with a jack (wasnt planning on holding it up with one) dads not a big car guy, only me and im 19 so i have to buy all tools ect. required before doing anything due to dad not having much tools lol.

Yeah it's good to have jack stands and not rely on a jack.

Honestly if you're on a budget, Just go to harbor freight and pick up a set of whatever brand jack stands, they'll work fine.

I'd guess $25 for a pair. I'd stick with two and just do half the car at a time.
