Hey everybody. I have 98 GT which is silver as you can see in my sig but I was considering painting the rims black by myself. Would this look good? Does anyone have pics of one? I really need help deciding! Thanks!

Everyone and their mother seems to paint to paint stock wheels black rather then getting new ones. If you really HAVE to, at least go gunmetal, and no matter what the color, PLEASE leave the lip silver/polished. No excuses to half-ass it.

But honestly, just get new wheels.

If your wheels are polished, at least consider trading them for a set of silver ones.

With that being said, I still wouldn't do it.

not to argue but i just wanna give my 2 cents... i wanted the red and black theme so yes i would love to buy black wheels, but i was living in pittsburgh at the time and i refuse to put money into rims when those god awful roads WILL ruin them, rims are to come in the future. also i think stock rims with the lip left grey looks tacky, just to give the thread creater some more to think about

I won't argue with that. I'm only saying it'd be a bit more tasteful to leave the lip. I think there needs to be some separation between spoke and tire.

Chrome? GP's never came with chrome wheels. Regardless, even if they did, a wheel can't be left chrome if it wasn't chrome to begin with. I think his are painted.

if you're gonna do it, i say paint the lip. i've seen pictures on here of painted black torque stars with the lip left silver and i like ctk's better. if there was a little bit of a dish that could be left silver i think that would look better. that being said, i think they would look better not painted, just clean and polish the sh!t out of them one afternoon and i bet they look sexy

You would think spray paint would chip off over time why not just get them powder coated

id paint em i think it personally looks decent and sways u away from such a stock look like if i were to do it i would mayb do like a blue lip to separate all the black but id definitly consider powder coating em if possible definitly would last longer

i have went thru plentyy of wheel trouble with my grand prix ive gone from stocks to steel hubs from 20inch chrome ten spoke to now my 5 spoke chrome 19s with pirellis(not to mention ive gone thru two sets of spacers/adapters to fit these different rims). when i got bored of chrome i really wanted black but shopping for black rims was tedious i didnt like the look of many of them so i considered painting/powder coating my chrome rims but after talking to professionals painting chrome or powder coating is not a good idea. my best advice is buy rims look on craigslist or tirerack.com but be very careful of used rims theres nothing someone wants to do more than sell their broken rims to someone then leading to you having to learn a ****ty lesson.

A few more capitalizations, punctuations, and some separation may have been nice.

My wife painted hers last month we just sanded hardcore then primed and added the pink with clearcoat. They also a make clearcoat for rims that is supposed to help with chipping. Keep in mind we painted these just for fun and are in the process of getting rims for it. Its not a Grand Prix but you said you wanted pics so its just an idea

I had my rims black when I first got the car, and I had them back to stock within 2 months.
