If you do not have the proper equipment and some one to at least teach you the basics, your best bet is to start tracking the paint booth guys that do work on the side. Usually the cost of paint and a few hundred bucks will get you taken care of.

agreed, because if you mess it up, you're just going to end up paying someone to fix what you messed up plus what they're going to charge for a new paint job...

do it right the first time so that you don't have to go back and do it two or three times...its worth it in the end

I have to agree there are plenty of guys that will paint your car on the side for a reasonable price ,I have been painting cars for 25 years so I'll fill you in on the steps and equpment needed, first off you will need a decent compresser at least 5hp that will sustane a constant 50psi and buy a decent HVLP paint gun,do your body work then prime the repaired areas ,sand the whole car with 400 wet then paint with a sealer ,you will then need a good 3 colour coats, next wet sand with600 then shoot with 3 coats of clear ,now for a perfect finish you will wet sand with 1000 grit then with a hi speed polisher with rbbing compound then follow with a polishing compound then finally with a glaze then a wax ,you will need a dust free shop with plenty of good lighting ,but before attempting to paint a complete car I would say practice on some old body panels .Chico.

    Nice advice, Chico.

Don't get in a hurry! Take your time to sand everything evenly and don't get too aggressive with the polisher.

my best advice is make sure there is no tire shine or anything like that on or near what u paint, i used to do body work for a used car dealership and my main issue was the ventilation becasuse the vents to the detail shop were attached to the body shop and i was always getting fish eyes and crap in the paint. And thin coats, keep the spray angle consistent, other than that chico covered it well i thought
