I'm having my 01' Grand Prix GT repainted.
Is there a way to remove the "Grand Prix GT" logos from the sides, and rear of the car without damaging them, so they can be re-used after respraying the car?

I have always used sticker remover they sell it at Walmart and most auto parts stores. Doesn’t hurt emblems or paint.

I like to use a snap knife and plastic wedge, and do it while the metal is warm. If a lubricant is needed, I reach for wax and grease remover since it can soften the attachment tape and won't damage anything. If the emblem has ever been glued, chipping the paint is likely. The emblems are comparatively pretty sturdy. Start with the knife until you can work the wedge under one end then cut as you gently pry.

Would you recommend using a heat gun at all to soften the adhesive, or would I more than likely damage the logos in the process?

i used fishing line to take mine off. (30 lb test) left it parked in the sun on a hot day the line cut em off like butter, then you need to clean off the left over adhesive from the car. warming it up with a heat gun also helps, dont go full retard tho, you can burn the paint and bubble it.

whos painting the car? are they not doing the prep work on it? or are you doing the prep and they just spraying it?

I was going to say dental floss is what used, and a hair dryer but fishing line is a better choice and a heat gun to loosen the double sided tape. Then use automotive goo gone to get the sticky off.

It's a local shop that has done really good work for me. They're prepping it, but they estimated me for all new "Grand Prix GT" badges because they couldn't guarantee that they could get them off without breaking them. If I get them off cleanly beforehand, I can save paying for new ones. Also, only "Grand Prix" badges are still available at GM, the "GT" part is not, so I want to get these off cleanly so they can be re-used. They said they had to come off because if they painted over them the paint would eventually crack at the badges. I'm doing some pre-prep. I have to get into the passenger front door anyway because I have a loose spare bolt rolling around in there when I stop and accelerate, so I'll remove the door cards so I can pull the side-view mirrors so they can be properly sprayed off the car. I also have an entire OEM (used) front bumper cover and rear spoiler to replace the ones on my car which have slight damage. (The previous owner either tagged something in the front or got tagged, and several of the rear spoiler bolts somehow broke their way out of the fiberglass spoiler, so I pulled replacement front bumper and wing from a salvage yard.)

People will call it a Grand Am no matter what, so might as well leave them off.

Update: 30 pound test fishing line did the trick. Car is painted and done and looks great. I'll get some pics up eventually.

What do you guys do to re-apply the logos? Do you buy the 2 sided tape and just use a sharp knife to trim the tape?

3M tape works. Just trim it to the size of the logo and prep the surface with at least rubbing alcohol so the adhesive bonds cleanly to the paint.

I use Pro-Form double sided tape, 1/2" wide. Make sure both surfaces are clean and warm (see post #8). Apply tape to logo, trim tape (I use scissors), then stick to vehicle.
