Thread: Oil volume kit. anyone using one?

Working on assembling my turbo build. anyone running the intense (or other) oil volume kit? or is everyone pretty much just running the stock oil pump setup etc. ? Curious if the volume kit would be useful for the additional oiling the turbo uses or would that end up pumping too MUCH oil into the turbo, (I know some ppl run restrictors on the oil feel line to the turbo) Thanks for any input you have.

Oil volume kit is an 04+ accumulator spring and valve.

Its cheaper at the dealer than it is via ZZP.

Our vehicles will produce 60 PSI at any level of throttle.

is it worth getting (i work at a dealer so it'd be pretty cheap) or just run stock one? And a side note, what oil are you guys running (turbo DD cars)

most people like to run diesel oils.

5w40 synthetic and the like.

I'd get it if you work at the dealer.

Then why run 40 weight oil?

yes why do we run such heavy weight oil in our turbo cars? i've gotta ask matt, maybe he can give some technical insight on why.. or if its just a myth that we all follow And it figures there would be a debate on whether or not to use the volume kit.. nothing is ever a cut and dry yes do it or no it will make things worse kinda thing lol. Well a lot of ppl I've talked to run diesel 15w40 or 5 or 10w50 but always wondered if it was really necessary or just someone's suggestion that others copied and became popular. Or is there any real proof that they are beneficial and worth the amount of power n economy the heavier oils rob.

Only conjecture.

I use Shell Rotella T6 synthetic and run the 5w40 formula, I can catch it on sale and get it much cheaper than the 10w30 Mobil I previously ran and the car is only driven in spring/summer/fall anymore. The 40w stands up a little better to the heat the oil sees in the turbo and doesn't darken as quickly. The Rotella is also formulated for heavy duty use and non coking for turbo applications.
Been using it two years now and pretty happy with it overall.

My parts guys say the 04 spring and valve are the same for 98-08.. interesting. Wonder if they updated the old ones with the different part or if there is really no difference...

Can he not check to see what numbers it superceded if any?

they both do not show any old part numbers associated with the current part numbers. The spring is good from 1978-2009 and the valve is good from 1985-09 so I don't know. I am not sure if they always show old numbers though on all parts or not. I know some do. I will try to dig a little deeper when he has more time. I work with him, so I don't want to irritate him too much with this stuff all at once.
