Thinking about buying up a Stattama turbo kit with no turbo.....Main question is what are some of the other common turbos that people run with that turbo kit. Trying to look up a few options and I'm totally overwhelmed with all of the different specs of the turbo's ........before someone suggest a tiny turbo or one the sized of a bowling ball...my goal would be 500whp on E85 and L32 bottom end. By the way, cost it a factor of course like to stay within a reasonable budget.

    What cam?

Quote from stattama - "We designed our turbo cams around our 60 series turbos using a .68 A/R ratio T4 turbine housing with an O trim wheel."

Doesn't mean you have to run that exact combo or spec.

More commonly T67, or borg warner 256 Bullseye - Bullseye Turbos #BT-

Some people have ran 500whp just on pt61 or something small without the benefits of E85, so there are a lot of options that may reach your goal out there.

Dark will chime in with some cheaper solutions that work as well, junkyard holsets have worked fine. You will want to take a look at your piping as well to see if it will plumb in or have to add the cost of putting in a vband.

As far a cam that's still up in the air.....Basically I have both SIX and XPZ cam that I can sell to get a cam that would be perfect for my goals. I know people have used the SIX in turbo application and put down some decent numbers. If I were to get the Stattama piping I'd be limited to the T4 flange as I don't want to be hacking up perfectly good pipes just to fit a turbo I find.

I also plan on getting a cheap ebay intercooler with a piping kit while I'm at it. I will run and L26 UIM/LIM along with the setup, not been a big fan of the SC blockoff method. Right now is trying to find a turbo that will work with existing piping and not costing $1500...or some crazy high number.

    GT35 a good option?

Why buy a cheap ebay intercooler?

Its not going to be good quality.

Buy a intercooler core off the guy that sells them on here, then buy a pump, hose's and FMHE from like frozen boost.

Id go with a holset model, either an HX40 or an HX52. I got my 52 on ebay for 150 from a seller in maryland that gathers turbos from trucks. Great condition too, ready to throw it on no problem.

If you go with a 40, get the 6 blade wheel...thats the fun one.

A GT35 is an alright turbo, but it may be alittle small for what you want.

Just did a little looking online and the HX52 looks like the most comparable to the T67 that would typically come with the kit. It also has the 3" V-band clamp exhaust and should bolt right up to the Stattama pipes. HX52 seems to be extremely reasonable in price and also fairly easy to find. Easily found for under $300.....which is way better than dropping $1000-$1500 on some over the top turbo.

I’m glad I just put a TEP Built trans in the car.......now it's time to have some fun with it.

Wanted to shoot for a 400whp SC build but is crazy expensive in the long run and can easily hit 450whp with any turbo setup with stock heads. May be re-thinking my whole approach on which direction I'm gonna be going.

Anything comparable to the 67 will get you where you want to be with little effort especially if you will be going with a turbo cam. Looking forward to watching your build. I would throw in a HVIII for good measure if not going with the block off setup. As far as the IC is concerned. Many have accumulated parts using eBay and have had great results. Infact I believe Tengis did a little writeup on parts needed when going that route. It can be found over on clubgp.

Have you considered adding meth as well? Maybe something to look into to further assist in reaching your goal. Regardless 500whp is pretty insane and ALOT of power for a 3800. Good luck!

we have been doing 450-500whp on a stock cam/rockers with just some valvespring upgrades out this way.

If you get a stattama kit, you pretty much have to stick with a garrett style T4 turbo to make it worth even paying for a kit. There are plenty of great turbos out there used (check out the turbobuick.com forums). A GT35r in T4 trim is probably hard to come by for a reasonable price. I like to get journal bearing turbos anyway...

I would grab something in the 62-67mm range.

I'm still very new to turbos and there are crazy amount of options. Is the HX52 a garrett style T4 turbo?

That begs the question can it be used with the Stattama turbo kit? What are the difference between the HX52 and the Garrett style turbos?

I just pulled the trigger on buying the turbo kit. Now the question is what are my options as a direct fit for the Stattama Turbo kit?

So many different options that I don't want to order something only to find out it's not going to fit.
As or right now I know it needs to be:
    T4
    3" V-band exhaust clamp
Journal Bearing (just want oil cooled, don't need BB turbo)
    External Waste Gate
And of course has to fit the Stattama crossover and downpipes

    What are some exact options
    GT35R
    Precision 6262
    any other ideas?

After doing a ton of searching on which turbo to get, here is the one that I think I'm pretty set on. By the way, I'll be running a ST5 cam with this setup.
