Ive been doing research on turbo builds, and I'm kinda confused on where to look now. Ive decided that ill be ordering a complete kit from zzp to eliminate the hassle of tracking down parts.
what I'm stuck on is whether to get Z3 kit with the Borg warner extended tip or the Z7 kit.
if i could get info on the positive/negatives of both turbos and what engine mods would help each kit respectively

The Z3 is their newer kit with a few refinements to keep production costs down. The Z3 has an open dump wastegate, which means once you hit the desired boost the wastegate opens and vents exhaust pressure, which means it will be a bit louder. The Z7 does not have open dump wastegate, it's alright but it goes into a 2.5" downpipe. The advantage with open dump wastegate is that a 2.5" downpipe becomes more like a 3" downpipe, less backpressure and steadier boost levels. These two kits are good for up to 450whp, after that I would go with a stattama kit. I would make sure to get #65 injectors with whatever kit you go with.

Really you can run these kits with stock motor and tranny until you start turning the boost levels up or really like to beat your tranny. It is a good idea to figure out how much whp you want to make or what your goals are before we can suggest something.

I have an 04 gt and would love to boost it, but would I be able to run low boost and keep my stock tranny or would I need to upgrade it? approaching 100k but still shifts tight.

im thinking 400 to 500 HP but i want a reliable build so i can keep the car as a DD.
i already know more power = less MPG im already over that.
i guess i just want the most power i can get but still be able to just cruise around nice and slow....untill some dumba$$ ricer pulls up

if you need more info just ask and ill answer as best i can

Don't need a turbo to eat ricers...your mods now should be working with the 3.29's jus fine.

I'd do the Z3 kit with the bigger injectors and a custom HP tune...why? Because I don't trust ZZP (one) and two...a custom tune is always WAY better...plus you can fine tune for a certain boost level and maybe even make your transmission last longer...I'd still get that TransGo Shift Kit I told you about to help things out if your going this route.

I run a 04 L26 with the Z3 kit on my car. Just got things finished but with 1.84 roller rockers, HV3, Plog, and front mount, on 8PSI it turned into an entirely different car. I am on my stock trans and have been very careful to limp it along until next year when I get a built tranny.

As for the PCM, a true tune is always the better way to go, but am very happy with the tune Tim and the guys @ ZZP sent me. The car is running around 10.5-11 WOT and 14.5-15 at cruise on the wideband.

You should expect to invest in a wideband at the time of install as it helps with ease of mind along with knowing where your at with the tune.

lean it out another half to whole AFR point and watch the car become insanely faster.
