No More ZZP Z7 Turbo Kits...

Just found out ZZP stopped making the Z7 kit. Only the Z3 and Stattama kits are available. I was told by Tim.
So what is the main difference between the Z3 and the Z7 kits? They both use the Precision 6262 turbo, the same 2.5" downpipes. The same intercooler can be used as well. So are the crossovers the only real difference between the Z3 and Z7 kits? Yet on their site they still sell an upgraded crossover, and Tim emailed saying i could still buy the crossover. But i'm not sure what crossover he was talking about since he said that NO Z7 kits or components are available. What do y'all think? Looks like i'll be looking at the Cartuning kit.

Turbo is the way to go.

Either ZZP turbo kit would make stupid useless front wheel drive power, why does it matter that they stopped making one?
If the wastegate to atmosphere was the only issue, you could always have someone weld the dump back into the exhaust somehow.

I saw a Z3 kit for sale once and the crossover looked like a stock crossover with a flange welded to it, not bent to feed into the turbo or anything, just a T. The Z7 kit appeared to be better in a lot of ways and the statama kit was too expensive. I'm guessing they are selectively exiting the 3800 market. They will probably keep the best selling stuff, but not make anymore of the less popular items.

This, people aren't dumping all the time and money into these cars anymore. Most of the guys with the "fast" 3800's have moved on to other platforms. There are a few turbo cars lingering around just bc people have parted out their cars and we got "good" deals on parts. One of the biggest killers was the lack of the 1" trans chain which you will need for longevity on our weak transmissions.

Selliot, looks like you and I joined this place around the same time ('09ish). You remember how much more active it was back then compared to now? Kind of sad when I think about it lol.

Us remaining turbo guys are ****ed, its almost impossible to sell the kits anymore if we jumped ship. It will be zero surprise when all kits are eliminated

That's why I will most likely always have the Gp, way to much money invested and will never get close to what I have in it.

Don't the z3 kits have the wg on the back like the cartuning kit does? And z7 has it on the crossover?
The wastegate location on the cartuning kits is a pain.

I guess i really don't like the Z3 crossover. I liked how both banks blended in smoothly together at the flange. The Z3 crossover looks a little cheaply made and it looks somewhat restrictive. I'm sure it works okay, but the Z7 was a better design, just like the Stattama crossover.

You are right. The Z3 crossover is basically a stock crossover with a flange on it. A little low end in my opinion.

I don't think you'd see any sort of gain below 700whp by switching to a better designed crossover.

Just my opinion, but the Z3 crossover looks a little restrictive and not as efficient. The Z7 crossover had separate banks that only merged right at
the turbo inlet. I can see the Z3 is less effective since both banks, all 6 exhaust ports, will actually have to share the same space, in the crossover pipe itself, which can cause the exhaust pulses to hit eachother which will cancel out some of their energy. That might hurt exhaust velocity. I;m sure the Z3 kit will work fine on a mostly
street setup, but i'll always wonder how much more i could make with the Z7 crossover at the same boost level.

But there's always a chance i can find a used Z7 crossover, or just stop thinking about it and get a Car Tuning Kit with the PT6262
turbo. I know all about the wastegate getting in the way when it's time to change the plugs. But thats a minor issue. I used to work on my
own '02 Trans Am WS6. Changing the heads, changing plugs, adding headers. NOW thats a PITA...lol. Removing a wastegate to change plugs once a year
is a piece of cake.
