I've been doing quite a bit of searching and have found a lot of good information so far, but I think I'll reach a conclusion by just asking it on a new thread..

My goal is ~500WHP on E85, which I've read is pretty easily attainable. Trans is to come later. Basically everything I've read says that the XP cam makes a great turbo cam if you've already done it, but if you are going to have access to the cam, you may as well go turbo cam. I was hoping for something like ST2 but it doesn't look like those are easy to get anymore and pop up rarely. Don't wanna do a ST5 or anything radical that would require head work.

    Any good suggestions?

This is going to depend on which turbo you pick much more than your cam.

As in the product description? If so then yes

Right now it's just the Z7 kit

Ok. The st5 doesn't require any head work, but it does require a few other things that the others don't. Do you have the xp cam currently?

I don't currently have the XP cam, but it's an option. I just know the XP cam is the most popular and easy to get. Right now I have a VS cam from when I did a SC build on this motor. My plans are to do a double roller and 150# springs. I suppose looking at that product description again, the only modification is machining the valve guides to open up the spring seats. Basically after gathering the info, I was going to do

New oil pump with machined cover
150# springs (get the heads machined to allow fitment)
Double roller (not sure if the correct chamfer is default now, but planned to get the crank sprocket matched correctly)
Stock lifters (wanted to do LS7's just as a "new" lifter but the consensus seems to be to not replace them if they're not broken)
    Cam
    Stock pushrods
    Stock rockers
    M90 blockoff for the intake

I guess the only other thing is, based on that description it doesn't sound like a mild cam, i.e. "Hard to tune to"

Depending on the type of springs you get, you don't need to machine the spring seat.

You should run Vinton valve seals, and milled Lsx style retainers.

Then your double roller with machined pump cover.

You're good to throw in the st5 then.

I would inspect your lifters first of course before tossing them back in the engine with a new cam.

They are only $80-90 on ebay if you do decide to get new ones, not a huge cost to know they are new.

I made 580 on a mustang dyno on a ST1 with the 6262. 10.00 at 138 at 3130 lbs is over 600 whp on dynojet.

Zzp will custom grind you anything, call them up and ask for a ST2. I personally wouldn't go any bigger than the ST2 if your running stock heads and at 62mm turbo, it's the cam I wish I would have gotten. Need more turbine wheel and compressor and more head flow for the bigger cams.

^^that is a really good point. St5's can make it difficult to build boost at the line.

I never thought to ask ZZP to just do a one off grind of the ST2. Sounds like the best option.

As for the lifters, it probably makes the most sense to remove the tired 195k lifters and put in new ones that will wear evenly with the ST2.. Especially since they really don't cost that much.

I'm glad to see others that like the VS cam. I personally loved it, had a nice broad power band and wasn't lopey, but you could tell it had some balls. It's out of the motor now. I can take some pics later

Pretty shocked to see how much of the chain damper was worn away. They really don't hold up well. I think I only have 15k on this motor with the cam swap and it looked like it could take maybe another 20k before the bottom part was going to chip off like others have had. Double roller it is!

Well, ZZP denied the custom grind for the ST2. Anyone know of reputable places to get a cam grind done that won't be outrageous?

EDIT: ZZP will do the cam.

What did you have to do or who did you have to talk to in order to get them to do the st2? Is it still 325?

Well at first they denied me because they don't stock it anymore. Then I asked why, and he said he talked to his manager and there wasn't enough demand for them, however, they're putting an order together and would put it in along with the other parts on the order. I just have to send them $340 using the misc payment feature. If you also send an email to customerservice@zzperformance.com, I'm sure they'll make the order for 2 ST2 cams.
