New car first time going to the track

Well I just got my 01 grand prix cleaned up. It's tuned pullied and intake by prior owner. I am going for a base line before I install headers, cam and my own tune (hp tuners on the way) Exploring intercoolers.

What is your 1/4 technique. I am used to my truck with AWD brake stall and go.

what are you doing at water box on street tires? completely driving around it and no burn or pulling right thru and e-brake burning the front.

Brake stall or not for best 60 time. a little loading with the gas or just stop on it at the lights.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us The truck is the sleeper of the group it has the most mods and a tiny amount of nitrous. I hate the camaro on the track with 4.10's, 6 speed and all season tires it's never gonna grip the whole length of the track.

On street tires? Drive around the box. Bring it up to about 1200 rpm on the brake then roll into the throttle slowly cuz it's gonna spin.

My track makes you go through it and spin just a little to get the gravel and stuff off your tires, I don't really have a problem, but I'm going to try not to next time. I would hold the brake and rev it to 1500-2000 and then let off the brake and slowly go into the throttle. You want your tires to chirp just a little bit so you know that you're pushing it to the limit. It will take practice. If you're really ballsy you could use the parking break instead of the regular brakes to preload the rear suspension.

One of the biggest issues in a W body is body/weight transfer.

Cable mod cost $8 and netted me .3 off my ET back when I was slower

If your coming off the convertor at 2K and getting it to hook I need to know your magic spell because ive got MT ET's and cables and I cant get a clean 60' anywhere higher than 1200-1400rpm even at norwalk.

Yeah don't go through the water box street tires. It drags water on to the track and everyone hates you. Also I like having it in 3 so it doesn't bang into 4th when you let off the gas after the stripe.

I will take a look at the back suspension. I don't want anything ghetto rigged.

I would consider a strap or cable but something build for the proper use. Maybe adjustable holes so the tension can be relieved mostly for normal driving.

Sometimes I don't quite understand the cable mod because no one will ever run that setup on the street, so its not a very useful 1/4 ET.

Thats like saying "I dont understand why people use slicks at the track, they dont even work on the street" or pulling the spare tire and headlight out, or using nitrous strictly for the track, or running race gas and a smaller pulley only at the track. Either way cables are a great track mod and if your bracket racing they make it easier to get consistent 60's. They take like 5 minutes to put on and cost less than $10

I'm not arguing that the cable mod is not a good mod, but if you're going to race someone and you tell them you run a 12.x with slicks and race gas and no interior but you really run a 14.x in street trim, then what good is that 12.x time slip?

Who cares, if it runs 12's...then it runs 12's.

Not my fault you made it slow again by adding all the stock crap back on it.

See what I'm getting at?

No because something that runs 12's in track trim is going to get smoked in street trim by an LS1, on the street.

I don't care how fast the drag cars that get hauled to the track are, because they cant drive it home.
