Yes it ends exactly how you think it does.

My car bogged down coming out of 2nd wasn't sure what happened till I checked the logs the next day and I had 6* of KR right around the time I was racing (MAF showed WOT same time as KR)

I was going to re race the guy but the same night or the next night he melted two of his pistons
