protege > gtp in lbs

coming from someone who has owned both a Mazdaspeed protege, and a GTP i would have to say that the mazda would rape the GTP if you went any faster than say 60. it would be close up to then, but then the mazda would be GONE by a mile.
like stated before, if you had to turn at all it would be a laughing event.
also they were only sold for 1 year, and are mazdaspeed's first car.
they came in 2 packages, just a basic 03 package. and a 03.5 package, which has different body molding and interior pieces. The 03.5 is the rarer of the 2 with only 1500 ever produced.
I've noticed that cars with manuals may seem faster than ones with autos, even if they're not, bc of that more direct connection to the engine which gives it a more "powerful" feel. I drove a buddy's 00 Celica GTS, rated 180hp with a 6-spd manual, and it felt quicker than my car by a lot. Then we went for a run once, and he kept up til around 50, then I pulled ahead about 2 car lengths before letting off. It's that experience that makes me skeptical. But I won't knock it anymore cuz I did find an article confirming that the Mazdaspeed was the best handling fwd car to date. I wouldn't play with it on a track unless my car transformed into the SLP Firehawk I've been looking at lately.
