Last night a certain member and I met up in a certain city in Northern Illinois. We sat around in the 8 degree weather and talked, boring the girls to death. After we sat at Wal Mart for an hour, we decided to race.
Keep in mind, my car is bone stock. 2000 GP GTP
We went clear out yonder to the middle of nowhere so that we'd be safe. The first time we were at a roll, maybe 45 or so. He honked three times and on the third I gassed it, but I left TCS on and performance shift off... and his modded car totally slaughtered mine considering his upper end is way better.
He ended up 2-2.5 car lengths ahead. Got up to about 105-107.
Second time we did it from a standstill. TCS off and performance shift on. Dropped it into first gear lock, mashed on the brake with my left foot and brought the car up to about 2k. Honked 3 times and we were off.
For practically never launching my car before, I did pretty well. Had him by about half a car length at the start. A lot of torque steer in both cars... I thought my car was going to worm off the road. :P Eventually he caught me again and passed by a car length and a half or so.
My brakes got a little toasty from slowing down from that, and wouldn't hold for a second launch. So we drove back into town, talked some more, and called it a night.
On the way home, I learned that I must have screwed something up. Car probably did not like the torque or the smoking brakes. See: http://www.grandprixforums.net/f59/g...ing-27535.html
Said member should post here if he wants bragging rights. I didn't want to mention him by name in case he didn't want to be mentioned.
