ls1 bored to a 396. sb. you can see bolt ons in the pic. tb, intake, exhaust. probably more. has spray too.
and the 306 is just like an ls1 or any other motor. its all going to depend on what heads/intake/cam it has.
and yes cars can be mad fast for cheap, all cars can, just gotta have the know how on how to do it. that would apply to the neon also. our gp's can be pretty quick with just the nic cam and zzp tunning. but thats the only cam putting up numbers like that.
the stock cam isnt bad( already blew thru the muffler can hear a small lope) in the GP, the early 2.8/3.1's also had a similar cam with a distinct lope.
The sheer price difference between the dometic market and import market is rediculous, civic/neons are the new 5.0's/5.7's of the early/mid 90's back then our parts cost an arm and a leg just due to internal design difference as technology progressed.
You got 1G sitting on the table, you got a 345 hp STOCK LS1 in the garage next to a stock srt-4 neon, one car is already in the 12's stock depnding on your driving skills and the other is in the 13's, which one would you put the money into ?
300 bucks on the LS1 is good for 3-5/10th off the ET(tires), say its a 12.9 car, then you get a 400 dollar cam, your in roll cage country now, then the remaining 300 into a tune or intake, or exhaust.
the neon (230hp), 400 turbo upgrade, 300 tires, 300 in a tune, im not seeing roll cage country anywhere.
SRT-4 14.2@102
2002 STOCK LS1 13.2@106 (not SS/Z28) just a plain Camaro LS1
2002 SS LS1 12.9@108
yea but you gotta work with what you have. i tried my damnedest to find an ls1. at the time i was 2 months to late to make finansing on an 01 z-28. 9,000 out the door. dident have that in cash so i couldent get it. sooo i got stuck with what i could find, and that was the gtp (i came from an 06 na gp) so im working with what i got. and not that im let down, im actually really glad i got what i did. i stand out from the crowd plus i get props all the time from all diffrent kind of car guys.
yes and ls1 or you could even build a 5.0 block for cheap would be a good route but sometimes its a little funer to be unique. i like stomping 2valve mustangs in my gtp
the neon is not import, mopar has always had a nice aftermarket. plus they were a huge thing, im sure parts can be found all over the place.
the point was buddy has a 12 sec car with not that many mods. something that could run with an ss camaro, and something that anybody could bolt on and have fun driving. yes you could be faster with that money in the camaro but sometimes you have to play the cards you were delt.
^^ I understand all that, its cheaper to build a 302 or SBC then anything out there right now.
You proved my point, thank you.
His 12 sec modified stock turbo/ic car, can hang with bone stock SS LS-1's.
**** I got a junk base GP, previously had a 350 91 GMC Jimmy 4x4, before that a 11 second daily driven( im in chicagoland) 78 mino, before that a sbc 427 66 nova, daily driven never track proven. now it costs me more to modify then it did with my previous lifestyle due to having the 3.8 N/A FWD.
Hell it cost me some welding sticks to get the 350 into my 86 astrovan. talk about a cheap mod.
( Got any good sites for decent parts for 07+ GP's?)
the point was its a quick car.....
you proved my point and at the same time went all around the world with it.
ls1 is fast so that means the skittle is fast.
also about the only thing different on the 07+ is the computer. pretty much everything else is interchangable back to 97
