Thread: Gorilla lug nuts and Key??

How many of you guys have used these?
I just got mine today with the key,.. and jesus almighty is the key thin walled.
I don't even want to start dicking with them if these socket keys crack as easy as some of the reviews read.

Hell, I'll just use the old nuts, tape up the socket to avoid scratches and send the Gorilla set back.
I would like to use the Gorillas since I have them but don't need the paranoia. Spare key socket and 4-way wrench seems to be a must.

I need a yea or nay.

Is it the splined ones? I think mine may have been Gorilla and my socket cracked when I had a flat on the side of the road. The lug nuts also had surface rust all over them and looked like sh!t.

I ditched mine right after the socket cracked. I got some Dorman replacement acorn lug nuts.

I just stick with the hex style lugs.. That way I don't scratch the rims up when removing or putting on the rims and it's a standard hex so replacement is easy

I have two sets of McGard lugs. One in chrome and one in black. They never rust, tarnish or anything. I airgun them on and off constantly. I hate locking lugs..

I've got Gorilla lock lugs and they are great... what's the problem? I've also ripped them with the impact plenty of times lol

I got these, and had it has a thin walled socket. I have never had a single problem applying or removing via pneumatic power even though they say not to. Lug nuts are still in great shape with no chips or rust.

Looks to be the splined ones I bought except chrome. I am worried that the socket is to thin and might crack/tear out when I wrench with a breaker. I don't want the hassle of extra keys for insurance and a 4-way lug wrench for even torque.

I bought them because my new TSW wheels have a smaller opening than the OEM wheels and wanted to avoid any scrapes. On a trial run I just used clear packing tape around my 19mm deepwell and it worked OK with the old stock lugs.

The reviews on that thinwall key are for the most part not stellar.

spline drive lugs suck because eventually you'll round one off, which breaks both the lug and they key. i am highly against them.

if you're looking for a set that you don't have to worry about scuffing the wheels and still are being cheap you want to look for a set with an internal hex key, like these:

although they are open ended, they work flawlessly. i used them on my subaru for a long time. DON'T get a set with a star key, get a set with a hex key.

my 2 cents here, from a wheel geek.

I have a set of chrome Gorilla lugs that I've ha for years and they still look great. The chrome hasn't peeled and I haven't had any problems with the socket. I did run some colored ones briefly and the color did chip off.

i had a set of black ones and they chipped around the base pretty much immediately, but the rest of it stayed pretty good. i only ran them for a season, though.

otherwise i have put tape on around one of my sockets to make sure i didn't scratch the wheel.
