So one of my supervisors has drilled slotted rotors on her '07 G6 GT and is looking to sell them (her lease is up and can't get financing to keep the car). Now, I've already looked up the sizes and the bolt patterns don't match, so I can't buy them. Anywho, I was wondering if a set of 4 used drilled slotted rotors (~13k miles on them) for under $100 would be a good deal anyways, just cause it'd be good to know. Btw, my dad says getting used rotors are a terrible idea, and he repeatedly called me stupid for even contemplating it lol.

rotors will have small groves that match the pads that they were used with.... it'd take a long time to get your pads to bed on grooved rotors unless soft pads were used/will be used or you get them machined.

I guess I was more asking whether or not it's a good idea to buy used rotors, and Matt's answer was a pretty good one. Anyways I've found a set of 4 drilled and slotted rotors for $157 with free shipping. Had to go online because every local place is cracked out of their effing mind, charging $40+ for a single, regular rotor.

    Do these look pretty legit?

    I am also considering these:

You're not talking about the fronts are you? Because to my understanding the 04+ cars have 12" front stock. Or does 11.7" mean 11"? I hate how some things are never specified on whether they truncate or round lol.

Going off my comparison of rotors for a 2003 Grand Prix and a 2004 Grand Prix on NAPA's website, it appears that I was correct in that 04+ cars have 12" front stock and 97-03 cars have 11" front stock (or 11.69" & 10.94" respectively -- whatever). However, bballa mentioned Monte Carlo rotors, so I checked into the stockers for a 2002 Monte Carlo, and they're listed at 11.94", which has me going . Also, the rear stockers for the 2003 Grand Prix and the 2002 Monte Carlo are both 10.94", but the rear stockers for 04+ Grand Prix' are 10.63"? This all just seems a little ridiculous to me. Please don't tell me that each variance in 10.x" and 11.x" has its own mounting bracket as well, because that would just be d*mn silly.

Buying used rotors is a bad idea. I've been down this road before. Had them turned too and they kept warping.

Locally i would pay maybe $40-50 for a premium 'GM 11"' rotor and $70-80 for the 'GM 12"' rotor. And thats nothing special. Still could be made in china, not coated etc. Look into Napa premium rotors, or Centric premiums. Even Raybestes. They're all e-coated on non pad contact areas so no rust...

Don't buy fleabay rotors, they're prolly econo rotors drilled and coated.

And yes, each different rotor size has its own caliper bracket to ensure the pads in the right spot.... how the hell else would it work?

And yes, you're stuck with the not GM 11 and not GM 12.

97-03 GP's had the 11's, montes from 00-05 were gm 12 and 04+ GP's were in the middle.

Stupid yes but thats the truth.

And if this were my car: centric premium rotors + EBC red stuff pads.

Hmmm. So if I were to get the Monte brackets, would I also be able to put a set of Monte front brackets on my rears and use the same rotors for those? Or is there something more that's different than just the brackets and rotor size. I'd really like to have the same rotors all the way around, whether it be soonish or later when I have more cash.

the rears must stay the same.

the only rear upgrade is the GXP one. i think you need at least 17" wheels as well since they're 12" rotors.

You'd need the calipers, brackets, pads, and rotors from a GXP. I'd get new pads and rotors and yard calipers and brackets. Try calling local yards then call morad.

It'll still prolly be cheaper from morad than a vendor.

And i REALLY don't recommend this without the front GXP brake setup (13" or something) because this will change your brake bias towards the rear. That'd be fine if you were lowered and running KYB's on a stiffer setting most of the time (less weight transfer) but unless you do something about that when you brake hard in snow.... buh bye rear end, hello fishtail.

I think I'll just say **** it and get replacement drilled/slotted stocker size until after I get some new wheels. I was looking into getting Polished 19" Sport Edition ST4's for next summer from Sears because they're like $50/piece and they look pretty decent for what you pay.

Do you want better looking brakes or better performing ones?

The 04+ Grand Prixs (exc GXP) have 11.6" rotors.

97-03s have 11" front and back or 10.9" is you want to be anal.. lol

and 16" rims will fit over rear GXP brakes.
and I run F-body front and GXP rear with no problems. It doesnt throw off the bias

    Yeah because you upgraded both.

I'd never suggest upgrading just the rear though...
