Tune Up Advice, Just bought High Mileage Grand Prix GT

Hello all,

I just picked up a 99 Grand Prix GT with 186,000 miles. I bought it for a daily driver to keep the miles low on my 350z.

I can tell that it hasn't been taken care of all that well, lot of miles on gravel! I'm wondering what items I should look at during the tune up process that are common on higher mileage 3800's... I picked up a new fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs and wires already today.

Anything else you can think of? any sensors that could use cleaning? its leaking oil above the front header, I'm guessing its the valve cover gasket.

Let me know if there is anything else you guys come up with!

yeah, change the valve cover gaskets. while youre into it you might want to change the lower intake gaskets as those will take out the whole motor if you dont catch them in time.

otherwise just make sure it has a good amount of coolant and that it isnt all gunky, the oil is good, etc. it sounds like you covered most of it.
