transmission fluid

I am just asking a question and getting suggestions?
I just purchased a 2002 grand prix GT and the car is running like a raped ape , but the transmission fluid has never been changed on it and it has 88000 miles on it. Would you change the fluid or no?

i believe that i should but i want to get some other input from others.

the last time i changed the transmission in my car i had to put a new trans in it and it cost me 1500.00

the fluid has a tint of red to it , i mean it is not exactly red if you know what i mean .

thanks

every 50k miles i believe is recommended to change, if you are having no problems and the fluid is a good color and doesnt smell burnt you should be ok tho, i would still change it

100 K miles is what it says in the owners manual....

I'd drop the pan, change the filter and fill it with dextron VI.

Changing your fluid has nothing to do with it going bad. I still can’t believe so many ppl think denial is a river in Egypt.:th_jester: What happens is ppl neglect/beat the piss out their tranny and only when it starts to act up try to take the cheap road out and hope it just needs a fluid change.:th_shakinghead2: The only thing you need to worry about is checking the fluid level first thing once you get it done. Not when you get home or at the gas station, as soon as you get it serviced. What happens is ppl mess up the “flushing” procedure and short fill them now and then.
Now is the perfect time to change your fluid, I personally recommend 75k to my friends.
Tranny fluid is red, so good observation there.:th_thumbsup-wink:
And for sure use Dexron 6, it is very good stuff. It is worth every extra penny.:th_peaceout:

I try to do mine every 75k, give or take a few miles... My gp has 232k miles on it and for the last four years, I have been running Hurst Hot Shift Trans fluid in it. It has extra friction modifiers in it and my tranny still shifts like it's new.
