Security light comes on at random

For awhile now the Security light has be coming on at random on the GS. It would shut off everytime I would restart the car. Sometimes it would stay off for weeks and then turn back on at random. I didn't think much of it. The other night while I was driving I was playing with my keys and all of a sudden they pulled out of the ignition. I looked down and sure enough the security light was on, found my problem. Anyways I was wondering if this will hurt anything?
