ok 2 things:

1)this is a really dumb question so bear with me... ive got a 10" MTX sub in a box and im going to buy an amp. my question is how do i wire up the amp? i get how to wire it for power and to the sub but where to i tap in to the audio signal? do i splice into the rear speakers, or go from the hu? details are appreciated as ive never done this before.

2)ive got the 6 speaker delco system but my hu doesnt have the 7 band eq. was the different hu an option from the factory with/without the 7 band eq?

Well there are 2 options that you have and both will work fine.

1. You can keep the HU you have now and run a cable to the battery, ground, remote like with a aftermarket HU but then you need your aux cables. To use them with a stock HU you need to buy Scosche SLC4 Four-channel line output converter at Crutchfield.com and this will give you your RCA ports.

2. You can upgrade your HU and run once again battery, ground, remote but instead of splicing you can run your aux cables directly into the aftermarket HU.

It's up to you if you want to replace it or not. If you are looking into using your iPod for listening to music in your car I would go with a HU with a USB port.

ok great thanks man! i knew there was a way to use my stock hu i just didnt know what it was. and i want to do this as cheap as possible since im not really that into car audio. i was given the sub and box for free and i just want to hook it up for the hell of it.

i think thats your best best to keep your stock radio but i would go with aftermarket youll probably get a better sound out of it and you can go to any local audio shop and buy the convertor ive seen them for as cheap ass $10

alright i got it hooked up with the line out converter. but im not using the free sub/box that i had. i bought a 15" kicker already in a box and 520 watt power acoustik amp for $75 so im using that! i never cared to have a sub before but now that i do i dont think i could ever go back to stock! thanks again for all the help!

^^oh yeah, im there. im thinking about replacing all the component speakers now :th_biggrin2: but im trying as hard as i can to fight the urge. i dont want to spend any more money on appearance or audio, i want to start putting it into performance :th_thumbsup-wink:

Car audio doesn't have to be expensive. If you want to purchase an already engineered product by big names, then you'll be spending a lot. It's easier to actively tune and purchase raw drivers though. At least you can hear the difference as your changing settings vs. throwing it in and letting a passive cross over do all the work.
