motor mounts

ok im pretty sure my 00 grand prix is overdue for motor mounts, the rubber is cracked and broke off on the dog bones, ive searched and couldn't find were and if these cars have rear motor mounts,if so tell me were they are and also the trans mounts cause my cars motor jerks hard when going into reverse and I think they may be causing my vibration, my car has 198xxx miles on it and they have never been changed

you have a trans mount, and a motor mount, both located on the sub frame to the engine.

the two top mounts, engine to the rad support are called "toque struts" or upper mounts.

they all wear out.

theres how to's here for all of them. quite easy really if you feel good about working on your car.

ok i can probably change them myself, cant be to bad,ive searched the forums and haven't fond a write up yet and is there a possibility it may be causing the vibration cause a motor shouldn't jerk back that hard,i think they are shot

Hey thanks, im also due for all mounts, i dont have a lower motor mount under my engine, when i had my sway bar replaced, the guy that did it should me the crushed up rubber and pulled it out an what not so now if i take right turns a little to fast, a little clunk is heard. Damn things are $50 from the auto part store, cheaper some where else maybe?
Are you saying you need a new lower mount or are you saying you don't have one? Your lower engine mount is located passenger side take the wheel off under the crank pulley you'll see whats left of the motor mount. Go to the store and opt for the solid rubber design (Sr) at the end of part number. There less prone to screwing up like the hydraulic mounts are. Make sire when you get the mounts shake them if you don't hear fluid moving inside you have the solid rubber.

what a shot mount looks like,

the rest of it.

when this bad, you will see the engine try to rotate when you shift from P to R then to D. the pass side will move towards the rad, and then back to the firewall.

oil leaks help kill the mount too.

how does it get worse then that? its metal to metal no rubber left at all lol

crazy part is is dint clunk, but the engine sure did move a lot. no vibrations or other issues.

flipping the dog bones bushing makes the engine even tighter.

well i cleaned mine so it was smaller than your mount grease and oil do hide alot.

I Prefer ZZP's poly mount it may be twice as much but even the SR mounts have a hydraulic center and are prone to fuck ups.

Sure Zzp is a great option but solid rubber mounts are just that there is no fluid in them meaning they are not hydraulic in any way. Hydraulic mounts have fluid inside that allows for more movement in the mount for a comfortable compliant ride.

Trust me even the "soild" mounts have fluid in them our NAPA SR mounts come back all the time for failures where they pop.
