Got a 2000 GTP. Was driving along, let off the gas to coast over a dip in the road and when I stepped out the gas car revved and would not move. Thought I slipped it into neutral at first but nope. Only way car will move is reverse and manually putting into 2. And even then it struggles to can speed, shifts at 14 mph and anything over 30 sounds like engine will explode.

I crept it to auto zone and got a PO742 code. Trans fluid looks like new and smells like new and fluid is at correct level. I haven't had the chance to drop the pan and look inside. If I do, and there is minimal shavings, or none, would one think this is an out right TCC failure?

Car has been running perfect before this.

I have the same issue the tranny is spent . Mine made a bang kept going until I stopped , I have reverse the other gears don't go . Around 2000.00-2300 $ to rebuild
 
sounds like the forward band broke. that being said, a rebuilt tranny is not really fully rebuilt, they reuse a lot of parts.

if its a recent rebuild is it still under warranty? bought by you? or the last owner? the rebuild?
