• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Electrical issue please help!

I just purchased an 08 GXP. Was good to me for about one month. One day I went to start it and it flipped out! The lights blinked, dash flashed, horn blew, and the trunk popped open. Had it jump started and drove it home. The next day, tried to start it and it was completely dead.

  • I removed the battery (one year old), it fully charged and load tested fine.
  • Reinstalled battery and checked the alternator with a meter and it was reading 14.40 volts which I believe is right.
  • I did not drive it all week to see if something was draining it and it started just fine. I drove it around town for the night watching the voltage gage on the display and it stayed at 14.40 the whole time.
  • The next day it did it again and will not start????

Sounds like a loose ground cable somewhere. But with no details on previous work done, or doing things to make a ground cable loose, it's hard to pinpoint the location.

you maximum charging voltage should be 14.8. Have you checked grounds like other suggested? a dirty negative terminal will bugger it all up. I would be looking at a alt that is potential not putting its amps out also.

Do you ever get in and it says "battery saver mode" on the DIC? Also the alternator on 04+ will vary between 12.1-15.1 when the lights are on it should stay between 13.8-14.4.

No battery saver mode indicated and the alternator reads 14.40 to 14.80 when it's running.

I hate electrical issues, I would much rather burn the car to the ground than have to deal with an electrical gremlin.

your charging good, going to say interment ground issue. check factory location for breaks or even ohm it while wiggling the wire to see if there is a break in it.

sounds like your car has an alarm but they might not have given you the remote. what you're describing sounds like it to a t right down to the starter disable

Are you thinking stock or aftermarket? Hmmm... Now the wheels are turning. I remember opening the door once and the alarm went off (Horn) and I think the lights even flashed. But I'm trying to think of the events that would have alarmed it and why it gave me the opportunity to just open my door without unlocking it. I really should be looking at my manual right now. Thanks
