4t65e does not go into park

Hi,
So i rebuild a 4t65e coming out of a 2000 volvo s80. I put it back together and it does not want to go into park. It goes into R,N,D and one more click after, but not in P, with the shift linkage or without (by manually moving the shift shaft).
any way of diagnosing this and possibly fixing it without a complete overhaul?

i'm pretty sure the volvo's 4t65e has one small difference that won't allow it to run properly. can't remember exactly what it was offhand.
 


Volvo used this model transmission in a few select models including the S80 and the XC90 during the model years of 1999-2006. This version of the 4T65E is NOT compatible with any GM vehicle as visable in the above pictures and has a number of differences

This is why it pays to do research first
That is if the OP was planning on putting this in a grand prix
 
Hi, thanks guys. I was planning on putting it back into the s80.
Currently, it spins reverse in reverse and forward in n and d, and won't go into p.

Basically you guys invented the whole putting it into a grand prix part.

OP, very very few people on here know anything about how these transmissions work.

We just tend to know the common issues, this isn't one hence the lack of useful responses.

Hi I have a general issue too.
Is there a reliable way to bench test a transmission? In case i do have to overhaul, can i test it before i put it back in? Trust me that volvo s80 is full choc-a-bloc below the hood, so much that the battery is actually in the trunk.

I have same trouble on 2003 Buick Rendezvous CX AWD. Transmission is 4T65E too.
