255 lph walbro problems

hey everyone about 5 months ago I installed a used 255 walbro and today I think it just left me stranded at the gas station. drove to the gas station fine stopped to get gas on the way to work then when I went to start it back up (moments after it was just running fine) it wouldn't start turned down my radio and noticed I couldn't hear the pump running. did I install this wrong? I heard these pumps last for a while or do you think it just gave out since it was used? only reason I ask if I installed it right is I did the tophat venturi swap since im a 04+ and its a venturi pump. ive seen people bend the 85 pin on the relay to solve this issue so ill try that when I get home but will most likely be ordering a pump. pump has run great for the 5 months and about 6k or 7k miles.

Turns out the connected from the pump into the top hat melted omw to pick up a new one now. Did the connector just get old or was this improper installation? Please let me know so I can fix it right this time?

Ive seen those melt quite often. When I did the 255 pump myself I wired the pump up directly. I bypassed the plug all together for the pump power and return. I only used that plug for the sending unit.

sounds like a good idea since i have to go to the junkyard tomorow to get the connector. so how did you plug up the hole left by the connector in the top hat?(that one is the one that burned up for me, the one with the oring around it)

I let the connector there... I just didnt use the hot and return for the pump. The connector still fed power to and from the sending unit. I drilled two little holes and ran hot and return for the pump and sealed them with RTV.

Thanks for the pics I can see everything only thing is I have some type of sensor where you drill the holes so it will be a bit tighter for me by I just ended up getting the connector at the junkyard got a new top hat clamp thingy too old one was so rusty I couldnt get it on but I noticed the old connector was dirty I assume from the rusty top hat and me banging on it to seal it all that rust went right into the connector so hopefully that was the reason but I'll leave it be for now maybe I'll try this in the summer time lol

car didn't start this morning couldn't hear the pump probably melted the connector again. at least it died at my apartment but wish it gave me more time lol looks like im wiring it up "billboost" style lol just some quick questions would it be better to use clearweld instead of rtv? I have some left over its like a quick setting rubbery jbweld. just worried about the rtv coming loose and then not sealing.also should I add a fuse near the tank just incase the wire does melt it dosent melt somewhere in my carpet starting a fire? or will it not be a problem running a straight wire from the pump to the fuse box? sorry don't know much about electronics obviously I was stupid enough to think a new connector would fix the problem

so I didn't get a chance to look inside the actual fuel pump but I took the door off and the connector looked fine? do you guys think maybe the wire melted in the canister or may I actually have a bad pump now? im at work now and didn't get a chance to pull the canister out. deciding if I should order a new pump now. I feel like its a the pump but at the same time it didn't show any signs of fatigue I was literally driving going 80mph for an hour home from school with some small blips of 90mph and ran great. then parked it went to sleep tried to auto start it in the morning and next thing I know the fuel pump isn't making noise. let me know if I should buy one also I have the venture setup should I stick with walbroh or something else.

Im now stuck in the menards parking lot 25 min away from home and I dont hear the fuel pump running checked fuses and changed relays is it safe to say this pump is ****ed?

When I try to prime it there is no fuel but when I start it. It will run for a quick sec and die like it was given one quick shot of fuel and thats it

I'm feeling like giving up on this car this is the third time this ****ing pump has stopped working on me in 3 months like why is this thing such a problem I dont understand how no one else is having this issue with walbroh unless the ****ers I bought it from just gave me some offbrand **** ****

can someone link a thread of what pump to get im busy most of the weekend and dont feel like hunting one down. can i get any on amazon so i can get fast free shipping?
