2001 Grand Prix GT

Pontiac Racer

I could talk forever about my car. Top of the line except all it's missing is the Bose speakers, supercharger, and it's not a Special Edition. Does have leather, heated seat, OnStar, HUD, auto-dimming rearview mirror, 4 door, steering wheel mounted controls, CD player with equalizer controls, sunroof, trip computer, 16" polished 5 spoked rims, 3800 Series II, block heater, and I think that's it. I might be missing a few, but those are all the upgrades from a standard GT. Oh, it has 120xxx miles on it. Mods include radar detector, child safety stickers removed, dealer sticker taken off. Not too many mods. I plan on getting GT emblem put on left, front grill, getting a vinyl decal reading "PONTIAC" across windshield, removing OnStar antenna, painting rear bumper with touch-up paint. Color is factory Galaxy Silver Metallic. This will be its second winter ever. Has very little rust spots such as a pea sized spot under driver side door handle, and a few spots on the black accents between the doors. Has a slight oil leak, but no one cleaned it so the engine is very greasy and oily, has trouble starting. Nothing serious, but it takes longer than normal for it to start, exhaust pipes are a little off-centered. I want to buy different exhaust tips to make it a quad exhaust, but the pipes are rusted and would have to torch them off and weld new ones on. The transmission isn't perfect. This car has its ups and downs. I see a lot of potential for this car in the future. It's referred to as "her" or "Wumbo." This is because the last 3 letters of my license plate are WUM and from SpongeBob, Patrick says Wumbo so I chose to nickname it Wumbo. I love my car and I'm trying to get her showroom quality. Ask me questions and I'll be glad to answer. I'm not an expert yet, but I do a fair bit of research on my car when I'm bored.

Dang looks like the only options they didn't opt for were the Special Edition package and Bose. My old 4 door 2001 GT didn't have a single option, no leather, no hud, no self dimming mirror, no Onstar, no remote keyless entry, no power seat, no sunroof, no steering wheel controls and no cd player :(

Dang that sucks. Sometimes I wish I had cloth seats cause it's winter now and my seats get super cold, but that heated seat really does the job. On high, it takes like 1 minute to get up to temp.

Or leave it stock. I don't plan on keeping it forever and I'm going to fix the current problems it has before doing any major engine mods.

Can you tell where it is leaking oil from? I know you said it is really dirty but where is it dirty on the top or bottom? Usually a slow leak is either 1 of 2 things, the valve cover gaskets or the oil pan gasket. Valve cover gasket is pretty easy to do, oil pan gasket is a tad bit more involved, you have to support the engine from the top and lower the subframe to access the bolts.

It's leaking from the top and dripping to the bottom. I was pretty sure it was the valve cover gasket as it looks to be glistenly from new oil, but now that you told me it is, I'm excited cause it's an easy fix I can do myself. It leaks oil slowly. 1 quart about every 2 - 2.5 months. Thanks for the diagnosis! Now that's one problem solved!

Glad i put in cloth seats from a 2005 grand prix in my 2001. Because some people care about their passengers, a little bit.
