2000 4T65E HD tranny in a 1998 GTP with no problem in swap......but!!

well i done the job with 3 jacks by myself with a lil help from the nephew with dragging the tranny out and stabbing the new one back in.shifts, runs and drives great again.one problem.......dammit its leaking tranny fluid out the bottom of the side cover gasket the bolts r tight but the tranny has sit for about 8 yrs. my stupidity i know.but i was wonderin is it possible to change the side cover gasket by jus slidin the cover back enough to pull the old gasket out and put a new on it?if so how much fluid to loose so i dont have to drain it.or is there something i can put around it to stop the leak it is steady.thanks.TRANNYMAN95 can u help please.

I would definately take a closer look at your side cover. The second torx head bolt to the left from the RIGHT lower side of the cover is a very common weak area to crack if the bolt gets tightened too much and it will cause a pretty bad leak. I would take a can of parts/brake cleaner to the area and see exactly where it is leaking from so you know what you are getting into. Unfortunately changing the side cover or the gasket means dropping the drivers side craddle and lowering the transmission down until there is enough room to remove it.
