A couple of you have asked why I came to Grand Prix Forums over any of the forums devoted to cars of my style, like Firebird Nation and such. Single-handedly the main reason I came here is because of acceptance, not the fact that we share the 3800 engine, not that a certain jerZcavy4120 was talking about my car and some of you wanted to see it, but merely acceptance. Everyone here is always willing to help or offer an opinion, no matter how stupid a question or request is/was. In my book that gives the GPF a big thumbs up (). Here is an example of how every Firebird/Camaro forum treated me whenever I posed a question about making my car faster, or recommended mods for a V6 base model. Now I already knew the answer to this. This is a proving point to people who haven't believed me in the past:
Also added in my own commentary...
Will a 2000 Firebird WS6 rear end bolt right onto a 2001 Firebird V6?
A fairly simple question in my book, asked on Yahoo! Answers to see if I would get different results than on Firebird forums
It's time for me to continue waking up my 2001 V6 Firebird. Got a line out on a built rear end out of a WS6 Firebird. Will this rear bolt right up to my V6 with no problems? Everything I know is telling me it should, but I would just like confirmation. Thanks in advance
Figured it was a simple enough question. Maybe get a little insight out of it as well...
ANSWER:
It would fit (Cool, thanks for the answer, and quickly too!), but would be pointless (Didn't really ask for your opinion, but okay). If you want a fast firebird, forget about modifying a V6 base model. You will sepnd a ton of money for marginal results.
Do this instead. Sell this V6 base model Firebird (Yes, sell my 50k mile baby, what an idea!). Add all the money that you would have spent souping it up. Put this money towards a V8 model Trans AM. The V8 powered Formula or Trans AM will be faster than your 6 banger ("6 banger"...this started to piss me off, threw me in a category alongside 4 cylinder cars (ie 4 bangers) and was there I realized exactly where this guy's mentaility on V6s was) base model could ever hope to be. The V8 model Formula or Trans AM is also a much better platform to modify. and we're right back to every forum...
There is a lot more to the Formula and Trans AM than just the more powerful V8 engine. The Formula and Trans AM also has superior suspension, superior brakes, superior tires, superior differential. The Formula or Trans AM will out accelerate, out brake, out corner and will be an all around better car than the 6 banger base model, even with modifications. Thanks, captain. I know the V8s are better
Consider this. A V8 powered Formula costs only about $1400 more than your 6 banger base model. I bet you would spend a lot more than $1400 fo get a 6 banger base model to perform up to the level of a Formula. The V8 Formula has 105 more horsepower and 110 more ft lbs of torque than the 6 banger. OOOOHHHHH you read the manual on the LS1, congrats!
I know it kind of sounds like I'm nitpicking at this point, but this is exactly where every other forum has placed me. In the "Don't modify your V6, it's pointless, get an LS1 (or equivalent) instead" category. jerZcavy4120 convinced me to come on here with the promise of real answers, not the "buy a V8 instead" people. You all have never let me down and have even got me to laugh on numerous occasions with some of your ideas on my stupid questions. Especially jteske88 and Billboost37 [they keep me awake every Wednesday morning during the most boring lecture class I've ever had].
All in all GPF is one of the greatest communities I've been a part of (along with my ExplorerForum guys), never passing [too much] judgement and always willing to offer a hand. Thanks Gerard for getting me on here and thanks GPF for being there when I needed help!
And also thanks for reading all this ranting! Your reward, you ask? Howsabout a cookie?
There's enough for everyone!
