I was driving home today after work and everything was fine for 99% of the drive. I had about 1/4 mile of straight road before I reached to my apartment. So I nailed it because 1-I like to accelerate, 2-I needed to take a dump bad. As soon as I drove into the apt complex I hear the serpentine belts squealing like crazy. I popped the hood and saw steam everywhere on the passenger side. The upper coolant elbow had split in two! I had replaced both elbows about 1 year ago because they were leaking. Also this week I inspected the engine bay (including the elbows which were fine up until now) and saw no signs of its coming failure. Wtf! I changed them out with some more dorman plastic crap until my aluminum elbows come in.

Moral of the story, plastic sucks, get aluminum elbows.

And btw I made it to the toilet in time Lolz.

At least you don't have to clean your seats on top of replacing the coolant elbows.

the aluminum elbows are made by one company, they are being sold by all these vendors now. personally, ill be waiting for them to be sold at the local parts stores, why pay twice as much due to shipping?

I laughed as I read your story. It sucks about the elbow but it's a good thing you made to the toilet.

Get some GM replacements. Much better quality of plastic and o-rings.

I laugh at how so many people put pressure on them when they install,....then heat distorts them ..they fail and you guys blame the elbow.

I'd bet this is an installer error.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
