So a while back, my CEL popped a P0440 code. After checking out my emissions system, I narrowed down the broke part to either the canister or the canister vent solenoid valve. I figure that I'll go with the cheaper part first and order the valve from advanced. There was no picture, but it said that the part fit the car. Today it got here (after advanced had shipped it to the wrong address and had to redirect it, making it take a week when I paid for 2 day shipping) and it was not what i had expected. Instead of the part that goes back inside the rear fender, near the filler neck, it was a different emissions valve that sits under the engine cover. I replaced it and decided to check out the part that I had intended to order. I got it out and sure enough it was indeed the part that was busted. The valve was cracked and the inside was super dirty. I'm furious not only that I got the wrong part, but really I'm mad at myself for not making sure it was the right thing. I cleaned the dirty vent solenoid valve and used duct tape to cover the cracks until the new one i just ordered gets here. On the bright side, I found out today that I'm getting a big promotion on the first that will help me to offset the cost of my own stupidity.
